Default Can you get the shifter out of the Gear without..

Can you get the shifter out of the gear without pressing the clutch pedal?
Today while i was driving i noticed that i was able to simply pop out the shifter out of the 4 th gear.
But then i tried it with other gears too and i could just get it out of any gear without pressing the clutch???
I was even able to bring it into "some"gears without the clutch!!

This is not normal is it??

It is scary to think that while im driving i can just hit my shifter and it will pop out of gear???

Of course, its a synchronized transmission. Not only can you get it out of gear without using the clutch, you can put it in gear. There are plenty of discussions about downshifting and rev-matching. The basis of those discussions is changing gears at the correct RPM.

Yes you can its called power shifting, you have to find the right rpms- in the Z its about 4200-4500 try it through that RPM band, I did that on a nissan test drive Z lol and it ran fine!

Maybe you can....BUT I'd recommend NOT doing it. Maybe I'm thinking conservative on this, but wouldn't you mess up the tranny eventually, if you constantly shifted w/o the clutch ??

If you do it perfectly, it won't cause any problems. Pretty tough to do perfectly though and kinda pointless in general.

If you can get it out of gear while under power, you have a problem!

If you unload the tranny just so, yes you can. Not a good idea on long term though.
