Default Baby on Board 350Z

Does anyone here have a baby (as in they use a car seat) with their 350z? If so I'd like to know how the experience is, if you feel safe to do so, how hard is getting in and out of the car while pregnant, etc..etc...

I'm not so sure its such a good idea to put an infant car seat in the front passenger seat of ANY vehicle, especially those with airbags and/or folding seatbacks... safety issues!

I wouldn't envy you having to haul yourself out from behind the wheel at 8.5 months. Passenger seat, maybe not as bad.

(aren't I a breath of fresh air today)

It says in the owners manual that you should never have a child under 10 years of age (im pretty sure it was 10) in the passenger seat of this car.

My wife isn't pregnant and she complains constantly about how hard the Z is to get into on a slope. It's almost comical watching her wriggle and squirm trying to get out of the seat. I can only image the difficulty a preg woman would have.

/me hopes the wife doesn't read this

If you do decide to do this, please get the passenger side airbag disabled. Its not expensive at all. Otherwise, kids have been riding in front in child seats for years.

While I can't address the pregnant part (I left that part to my wife), I drove with my son in a car seat for a little while. He's old enough now that we don't need it, but we did at one point. I think I would be uncomfortable with putting a rear-facing infant car-seat in the car because it would put a baby's head so close to the windshield. Once your kiddo is old enough that you can turn him/her around facing forward, it should be ok. Don't forget that you'll need to purchase an airbag kill switch if you haven't done so already. That will run you several hundred dollars installed. You can PM me if you want details on that.

The down-side of a car-seat in your Z is that they are hell on your interior. A properly installed car-seat should compress the seat cushions basically all the way to the frame to keep them from shifting in an accident. If you ever take your car and car-seat to a firehouse to have those guys show you how to properly install it, it will make you cringe. Once you see how they're put in properly, you'll hate to take it out because it's a LOT of work to get it put back in right.

It has instructions for installing a child seat in the owner's manual and there are child seat attachment points. You are supposed to get the airbag disabled though.

I would say buy a daily driver. It's not practical to put babies or baby seats in sports cars comparible to the Z. While I'm sure it's possible, I just don't know the practicality behind it.

I heard that if you want to be able to use a car seat in your Z, Nissan has to install something.

No baby drooling on the seats. Buy a mini van to haul around the wife and kids, or just leave at home. Plan B is put them in a cab and follow the cab to grannys house!

LOL LOL

NEGATIVE on the baby seat in the Z idea...Although Nissan devotes about 20 pages to it in the damn owners manual (God only knows WHY).

I wouldn't put a baby or baby seat in my Z....unless it was an emergency and I couldn't wait for 911 to get a damn ambulance.

Pregnant women will hate climbing in and out of the Z....not as painful a ritual as a Vette, but the seats only go back so far and if she's 6 months pregnant...dat kid's head will be rubbin' the MF dash...LOL

I have a young one ( almost 3 this Nov. ) who rides with me sometimes when I take him to daycare. I usually let him choose on what vehicle he wants to use everyday . I bought this foldable Graco carseat at Sears so I can easily stow them at the back when not in used.

Well we didn't plan on this baby thing...and have only had the car 2 years, we went to the dealership this weekend and they told us we were $10k upside down. (I knew we would be, but hey it was MY car and I had no plans on getting rid of it, I was going to drive it until it fell apart).

My husband says we should keep the Z, but I'm not sure. I mean I LOVE my car, but I feel like its selfish. We can't afford 2 car payments or rolling $10k into another car either. I'm still worried about daycare and health insurance let alone all the other accoutrements we will need.

At this point my hope is someone buys it so I can walk away clean. But I am running out of time. I am 12 weeks at this point. I don't want to be huge walking into a dealership with a 2 seater, I believe salesmen would use that to their advantage knowing how desperate we are.

The dealership told me they would NOT disconnect the airbag, but others have told me they would. I would just need to sign a waiver that they aren't responsible. Also the Nissan dealership have told me that if the weight in the seat is under 55 pounds the airbag won't go off. I'd like to know the stats of that, such as "4 out of 5 cars the airbags didn't go off" and frankly that is like playing russian roulette in my mind with my kids life. I can't stomach the thought.

Also this is my car, not my hubby's, it is what I drive to work, grocery shopping or anywhere we need to go. Our other vehicle is a Jeep which is also only a 2 seater. And before someone mentions selling it...that is not an option. My husband has big plans for jeep stuff so it might be our bread and butter someday soon.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Anyone know some rich guy who wants to buy a pretty present for his wife.

It doesnt sound like you have a lot of options. As a fairly new parent I can guarantee you the Z is not a viable option for transporting your child. We purchased a third car for precisely this reason. With your situation it would probably be best to sell the car and purchase something cheaper and larger. Sucks, but the life of your child should come first.

car seat aside, do you think you could fit a stroller, diaper bag, etc in the trunk of your z? (my R holds one set of golf clubs!) Two 2 seater vehicles just won't be very practical.

I feel your pain... do you think I drove those 4Runners, Pathfinders, Explorers, all those years because I LIKED them??
