Heres what I did.

Cut off excess plastic (the black part sticking out)

Fill holes with plastic epoxy

To get the epoxy smooth, I used a very small amount of turpentine on a paper towel. Generally speaking, quick use won't hurt the paint, but make it quick.

When the epoxy dried, it was smooth and the holes were filled, so I didn't sand anything. (plus, I didn't want to risk messing up the paint around the holes)

Once the holes were plugged, I got some touch up paint from the dealer and very carefully painted the spots.

If you look closely, you can see that there used to be something there, but it worked really well. A friend told me it looked more like two water spots than anything else.

I think this definitely looks better than the plugs.

 

Ordered my Z about 3 months ago and it's due any day. Every time I talk to my salesman or the dealership management I make them repeat after me: "No plate on front. No dealership sticker on back." We'll see..............................

Sorry to hear they drilled your bumper, but after your first door ding from some dork, you'll forget all about the bumper plugs.

this is a HUGE problem, my wife had it with her Jetta, but we just bought a nre bumper strip (the Z has NON). I told my sales guy to make sure they don't do it. He said they won't, and I even offered to take off work for the devilery date to stand at the dealer and wacth it get PDI'd and MAKE SURE NO holes are drilled.
My dad has a CLK55 and they are the same way, they basically take 2 grabber/drywall screws and screw in the plate holder, SUX

careful, it isnt the salesman that gonna drill the holes, its the guys in the back. they just do the same to every car, if the salesman doesnt remember to tell them, or isnt there. your still screwed.

I just warned my dealer that if they put holes in my front bumper they would be buying me a new one.

My salesman informed me that they wont even touch it but just threw the frame in teh trunk with my front plate.

I keep teh plate in my car in case i get nailed for not having it, then just throw it in the windshield as the cop walks up.

 

I am going to need this post because my dealer won't let me not have a front plate here in VA

 

My car is silver. The touch up/epoxy solution worked well. My thinking was sort of along the line that if it didn't work, I could always use the plugs, or worst case scenario leave the plate on.

I think it is the law here in CA also and that is why they put it on.

Believe it or not, I looked at the car in back and it had no holes. When they drove it up after the purchase, it had a plate. They said it was the law or something like that. Probably BS, but when it comes down to it... it is the law. Hard to fight.

I have never had a front license plate. I have been pulled over 6 or 7 times in the last 5 years. I have gotten a ticket for no seatbelt, tint, no insurance docs, wrong address on license... Not once did the cop ask me about a front license plate. So, I filled the holes.

The other benefit is that the red light cameras take a picture of the front of the car, so if there is no license, there is no ticket. By the way, I am very against running lights, but in the event I messed up, they are going to take a picture of one hot cat that they can't locate.

 

This happened to me. Talked to the manager, he said, sure no problem. of course the mechanic didnt see his little note on the winshield and drilled holes anyway. Tell your salesman to tell the mechanic personally. and then make him stand there when he doesnt do it.

For now, it appears i will have to consider plugs or epoxy.

Don't know whether my salesperson was lying through his teeth or not... I did the NO front holes pretty emphatically, along with no free dealership advertizing on the back. When I took delivery, I was there when it basically came off the truck -- still had all the shipping protection on (it wasn't even in the bay to be prepped yet) -- AND it already had TWO HOLES in the front! Anyway, my salesperson swore up and down that they didn't do the holes -- he said that if the car was destined to be delivered to a state that requires two license plates, the holes were pre-drilled elsewhere (he didn't know where). All the other 350s that arrived that day (5 of 'em) had holes in the front bumper too! The best he could do for me was toss the front plate holder into the trunk (at least the two little holes weren't made larger by the screws).

So, if you believe my salesperson, Nissan has a phantom hole driller lurking around somewhere in the galaxy (if you really want to know, the holes look like they're punched rather than drilled).

Are you sure these aren't just the two dimples that Nissan puts on all front bumpers to show where to drill? There was actual holes punched all the way through the bumper?!?

Yep, you're right, they don't go all the way through. So every Nissan gets to smile with two dimples...

 

This is a standard bumper without holes but with dimples.

a 3 month old thread resurrected. anyway, epoxy is a glue, any hardware store like homedepot would have it, car shop MIGHT have it, its not really an automotive application, but maybe. walmart would have it, hobby stores might even have it.
