I had a '91 RX-7 and while it ran smooth...it never really FELT fast to me. Plus, it was only 160 HP. Seems like the rotary engine needs to get to have a relatively high compression ratio for any real power to kick in...Another reason for the problem with the last gen RX-7 turbo, I guess.
No surprise to me at ALL that NO other manufacturer has any sort of rotary engine in it's lineup.
C5-z06 or GTO, those were my list, hell when i bought the z i wasnt even looking seriously at them, i test drove it for comparison, and bought it on the spot.
I would have bought a 96 or 97 Viper GTS. They can be found in the low/mid 40's with reasonably low miles, and I've loved 'em since the day they came out. It would have been a stretch, but I'd have done it....

That's what I'm considering as a replacement for my Z if it's totalled
If the Z didn't exist, I'd probably be driving either a Subaru WRX, a BMW 325i, or a Mini Cooper. The last time I shopped for a new ride, those were the three other cars I considered along with the Z. In the end, it came down to the WRX vs. the 350z, and the Z won (on account of hotter styling and a more powerful engine). The Mini was ruled out due to price gouging (all the dealers wanted over MSRP), and the Bimmer was slightly out of my price range.
