Ugh I can't fight it it anymore. I need an 06!
So I take my car into the service dept, which actually went better then expected. I told him about the 5th gear grind, he said 2 to 3 is normal, but he's had some instances of 5th gear. Takes the car into service.
Is there no way of getting around the 1,200 in parts that isn't covered by Nissan when replacing the clutch? Do they have to replace the flywheel?
Anyway so I'm thinking instead of spending 1,200+ for fixing the Z why not just get an 06. Dealer will sell for near invoice, and even though my Z now has 43,000 miles the trade in is still what I paid for it with 24k about 6 months ago (21,500 dealer price or so)
I'm really diggin the 06s and esp the rev-up motor. Reading about the modding of it has me even more tempted.
I can't think of any downsides. My loan amount wouldn't increase much, my interest rate would drop and the payments would be even or maybe slighty less.
My 04 is Lemans sunset and I want a new color. Anyone here have an 06 interlagos fire? Is the color as good as you first expected it to be? I saw one here in the AZ sunshine, it's a complex color.. has a sort of goldish tint to it in the sun. Looks hot.
I was expecting more of a price drop in the 04s but it looks they are hanging in there well.
The only downside is a new Z is around the corner, and the increase in loan amount (although not much).
but d a m n the 06s are infuego

the interlagos fire looks hot in pics, i haven't seen on up close, but from a distance it looks hawt too. I want to trade up also, but can't see losing that much on depreciation twice in a year...
Brett (still loves his '05 SB but longs for the interlagos fire)

the 06 Zs gained like what......an average of 100lbs or so? thats crazy......so it seems the best one might have been the 35th Anniv or 05 Track rev-up motor.....hrmm

You are right, I often times refer to the whole tranny in a 6 speed as the clutch
Anyways I have to big up the dealer. They didnt second guess me or even try to verify the problem. They just took the car into service, took out the tranny verified it was destroyed and ordered a new one.
Unfortunately I was not able to secure a Nismo flywheel as they couldnt find any in the Western US. I was able to get the 1,200 down to 900 or so when I told him I had a wholesale hookup at another Nissan dealer, they were more then happy to match.
I can't wait to drive it with the new tranny. I think it was acting up when I bought it, so I'm not sure I've had the privilege of enjoying a new tranny on a Z.

Of course, I'm bias and think the Enthusiast is the quickest since its roughly 40 lbs lighter than the 05 Track model. No VDC intervention to nerf your turns. Then again the stock brakes and rotors are good, but not track material. The base model maybe lighter by 8lbs, but they don't get an LSD to help with traction.
If I had to choose a particular model for a Z to represent the magazines, I would choose an 05 Track. Yellow one too.
