Default Are Z's reliable?

I'm thinking of buying a '04 Z this week. I was wondering how reliable Z's are overall. Any input would be helpful. Thanks.

Yes, yes, and yes!

Heck the reason I bought this Z was because of my cousin raving about how good the engine was. He is a master mechanic in VA. Yes, for Nissan. I bought a Pathfinder with the motor.

I haven't had problem one. Except tire feathering. Lol. I think it is a Nissan thing. I was hoping unlike some, that they were going to use this motor in the New Z. When it came out I bought one.

IMO...Nissan/Datsun cars have been VERY reliable (The Z included). Case in point: When I graduated from college in 1987, I got a 1980 Datsun B-210 with 5-speed and it's loooong truck like shifter.. lol.

The car ran flawlessly and I drove it for a few years, until I could save up for a newer car, at which point my Dad drove it for several years before we finally sold it.

While I only drive my 04 Z part time and have less than 10K miles on my car after a year I can say it never given me any problems other the window grease streak.

My Z... and i think the vast majority of Z's are very reliable... I think the Z's just have a stigma of not being reliable because some of the 03's and less of the 04-05's have the tire feathering problem as well as transmission problems. I dont think it should deter you from buying a Z because most of the 03' owners seem to not even have the problem. Its just that the ones that do, tell us about it while the ones that dont never say anything about it. When i first considering buying my Z, thats what I went through... i just decided that if i were to buy used, i'd get an 04.5' at least (one w/ knee pads... easiest way to tell to my knowledge).

They are reliable. It's just the minor annoyances like window grease that makes people complain. I have no doubt my baby will start up in the morning.

In addition to the tire feathering and tranny problems, I'd also say that the electric windows seem to be a common problem I hear about.

My tach stopped working for about 20 seconds a few weeks ago, just a one-time thing that I haven't seen since. Other than that, zero problems.

15000 miles with no issues... not even feathering.
