Yeah, really fair comparison... It's a one of a kind Elise made for one person for racing that won't be produced again. If that is your game, I want to show you something: https://my350z.com/forum/showthread.php?t=147786

PS: I just ordered a plastic model kit of that above car

Yes, you are, in fact, completely wrong. All it shares is the engine and even that is stuck in a different end of the car. And the people saying they can out-drag it are completely missing the point of the Elise. That said, I bought the Z, and would have even if they were the same price.

If you already have a beater-car and you want a weekend track car, sure, get the Elise.

Otherwise, it'd make more sense to keep the Z. If an SUV t-bones you in the Elise, I think you'd be a goner. Conversely, the Z has a 5-star government crash test rating.

Ultimately, I never understood why some folks would buy cars to "get looks", though. I'd rather go unnoticed so's that nobody jacks my car.

In addition, I've heard that the Elise has scary repair costs. Minor bodywork for a normal car can result in a few thousand dollars spent on replacement parts for an Elise.

The Elise is a fantastic toy.
Wish I could afford toys like that, but I needed a CAR.

I agree with most here. It's a good looking fast little vehicle. But, it's NOT an everyday driver. The interior is stripped down to the bare necessity items. Alot of cabin heat and no room. But, it's fast. With some mods, i bet it's REALLY fast.
Like kris said, They run low 13's. My car can't outrun one with the mods i have. I believe that with some mods it may get into the mid 12's. I don't think Z's can do that while NA.
But, like i said, it is NOT a daily driver. If i had to choose right now, i'd still go with a Z.

think about a modded elise....

depends on what you want... my Z is my daily driver and I don't autoX or go to the 1/4 mile track. If the Z was my weekend car, and I could afford the Elise and I was into AutoX then I would def take the Elise over the modded Z.

I see everybody is as divided as I am!

The Z is already a week-end car, I have a Subaru as daily driver. I did 11 track days with the Z since I got it last March. Went through 2 sets of front and 3 sets of rear tires. The ones I have now are past the wear indicators...

I love my Z, but whatever mod I do to it, it will still be a big fat GT coupe. 1/4 miles is not what I’m looking for. Cornering is. And responsiveness.

I don’t know how the new Elise feels. I’ve driven a Mark 1 Elise in Europe (120hp), with power nothing, and it felt soooo good. The car is so talkative; within minutes of getting started it disappears. It’s you and the road, power sliding at will. It’s just so light and nimble. Brakes last forever, tires too. It’s definitively not a daily driver. Long hauls are possible, but forget about luggage.

I’ll pay a visit to the local Lotus dealer this week. They have 7 ‘05 Elises they need to get rid of…

The motor is up-ed to 190hp from 180hp.
The car is sick all around. Hell, even in a strait line it's in the low 13's stock.
It is a little small though...

[QUOTE=hypeiv]think about a modded elise....

Saw a video of a turbocharged Elise. I think it was somewhere around 400HP

That car was OUT OF HAND fast.

Truly an F-16 for the street.

Yup the force fed Elise beats an Enzo in skidpad and the slalom and runs 12's all day long on stret tires. But the Z is good enough for me.

lol, yea i have that car as my desktop at the moment. Its a one up that was made for an race crew in asia. Its incredible, instead of a 4 it has a 6. I can't believe it msyelf...400hp/294lbs of torque pushing 1800lbs is insane.

obviously the elise is more expensive...
The elise 111R has a celica VVTI engine making 147kw, and the base model has a 1.8L Rover K-Series engine found in the MG, making about 90kw.

My best mate has an elise and we go driving every weekend. A Z will never keep up with an elise on tight hill climbs. The only time a Z will kill the elise thoroughly is past 150km/h, coz the elise (standard) tops out at 200km/h redlining fifth.

Keep in mind there are faster versions of the elise like the 111R and Exige which will embarass most turbo'd Z's in a straight line and MURDER them in corners...

Elise IS a lot more cramped and harsh inside, but it looks gorgeous.. a better track car.

The Elise is a joy to drive. Not practical by any means, but it's an awesome driver's car.

My friend has an elise and I dont like it at all. Reminds me of a volkswagen thing. And if you are over 5'6" or 175lbs, good luck getting in or out of the thing.

welcome to the world of the 350z

it's a great car, a bit lacking stock, but with lot's of potential if you are willing to spend money. Key word being if you are WILLING to spend money.

if you are so serious about tracking the car, the 350z will end up being expensive for sure.... both in maintenance and modifications, and will become more and more unpractical as a street everyday car.

you are the one who needs to do the math and figure out what is best.

If I had the money I would keep the Z and buy an Elise for a weekend/track car.
