I thought the M3 was faster also, but I just saw a video of a 350z beating an M3 head to head, that's why I had to ask. I think M3 has more 20 HP, but it's also heavier, right?
my cuz has an 04 m3 smg2, i never raced him, but i drove his car, and it doesnt feel like the pull of the Z off the line, like my 05 enthusiast Z, but im pretty sure it will most likely dust a stock Z with 287/300hp on the highway.

both are decently fast cars, but you get what you pay for...M cost so much cuz its way more luxurious..you basically buy a brand also but to the point, the M should be a tad bit faster
The M3 is faster stock for stock but if your looking to buy one it shouldn't matter which is faster it should be which appeals to you more, and dollar for dollar if you mod the Z to the price of the M3 its game over for the M3.

I dont agree
You know why?
Because you have to compare apples with apples and pears with pears!
Stock vs Stock is fair like apples vs apples
But modded Z vs Stock M is unfair in terms of everything but price!
THats like comparing apples vs pears
Why not just say if I put twin turbos and NOS I'll beat a ferrari enzo that cost 20 times the price tag?
In terms of real competition... price is never factored in...
