I actually went to a Viper meet yesterday. As far as reliability goes, I was actually surprised that many of the members haven't had any reliability issues with their cars. Sure there are little quirks here and there, but nothing major. Also think about this, the Viper in general doesn't have all the toys and gagets alot of cars have, its pretty simple from a technology standpoint.

As far as looks, I Love the 1st gen GTS's. I hate the look of the 2nd gen. Looks more like everything else on the road. Funny thing is, the guy that designed the new Viper was a designer for Toyota and actually designed the Camry!

The new vipers arnt in high demand. You can pick up a 2003 for 55-60k with low miles.

The GTS is a Gen II not Gen I....The Gen II[96-02 Vipers] got revised suspension and handled much better than the Gen I..The 96 GTS was the debut of the Gen II Vipers...So you hate the Gen III Dodge Camry Viper but love the Gen II GTS shown in red in your post and blue below ..

Funny thing is there is infighting on Viperclub between the Gen II and Gen III guys...I, like most Viperholics, think the GTS/RT10 are the classic "real" Vipers...The Gen III just doesnt look or seem right to me...The market reflects this...You can still pay between 45-60k+ for a GTS Viper depending on year, mileage and condition...And you can find SRT10[Gen III] for around the same price used and around 65 brand new...there was also a 200 day supply because of lack of demand so they shut down production if Im not mistaken...

This shape will be forever be the epitome of Viper to me..The new Srt10 is a nice car in its own right but its not outrageous enough to be a Viper styling wise..

BTW this particular GTS below is a 1200rwhp monster that has a reputation as a mass murderer....One kill that stands out and was captured on video was a Hayabusa kill....It is easily a low 9 high 8 car with the right suspension..Would you believe the guy just sold it?

Man, that Blue on is insane! How does this sound, a 97 gts with 21k on it. Mint condition for 43,000?

If it really is mint, I'd jump on that in a heart beat. The GTS from 96-97 is already starting to appreciate in value because there just aren't many around.

The 300hp in the Z is measured at the flywheel; it ain't RWHP. That is waaaay less. If it were 300 at the wheels, I would have sent Carlos Ghosn a fruit basket. Actually, make that two

EDIT: Read the rest of the thread and realized that I am late to the party.

That is an absolute steal...Thats around what a brand new convertable Z costs optioned out........Add a 7k Roe SC and you are putting down near 700hp at the wheels or 15k-20k Heffner TT and put down about 800-850rwhp....If you can get that car GET IT...The value of these cars are gonna go up but you would have to keep the mileage down if you are going to be buying it for an investment....But these car was meant to be
driven...

For more on the blue car in my above post go to the owners site here:

http://www.garyjavo.com/

click on the picture of the GTS with SOLD written across it....You will see videos of his runs, yes even the Hayabusa run....Wicked car man. Just wicked....I was a bit off on my power rating on this Viper...He has a write up on it on the site...

Glad you said the Viper was meant to be driven. It's funny how alot of people want to keep the milage down on a car like this.

So true...You have some 96 GTS that barely have over 500-1000 miles on them....Did you get the NSX? If I remember correctly you were looking at one..Didnt follow up to see if you got it. later

hehe, I'm going to make my decision this week. I'll have a new ride by weeks end. I'm really leaning towrds the Viper, such a big performance gain and has the looks to boot. I've always liked the Viper ever since it came out. Same with the NSX. Love the look, refinement, gas milage!

Thats a good deal. I had a viper set up for me for 44k for a 97 GTS with 11k miles with headers and exhaust. Your gonna spend alot of money on modding a viper unless you go cheap with a VEC1 and filters and smooth tubes, but youll get about 40-50hp for 450bucks. The 3:55 gears are a must also. and headers and exhaust and cooling. car tends to want to overheat in the summer.

Damn is that thing sweet Snakebitten... the blue and white 96 GTS is my favorite Viper of all time! It's too bad they messed with it, as far as looks go... They could have done a better job IMO!

I agree. I don't like what they did with the 3rd Gen Vipers. The 2nd Gen GTS was such a unique, beautiful car, but the 3rd Gen just looks boring and flat.

Some people on these forums need to READ before they go and criticize. It was already pointed out that I mistakenly put wheel instead of crank.

In particular this message going out to usmanasif & silverTA 2002

Here... look...

Given the fact that the 3rd gen was designed by the same guy that designed the Toyota Camry!

Also Gen II[GTS] and Gen III[SRT10] do 11's @ 119-124mph its been documented by various publication and by owners. Also it pulls between .98-1.05 lateral g's. They dyno between 420hp - 445hp bone stock to the wheels.....A Z doesnt stand a chance straight line or in the twisties

Pointless thread. My life has been wasted
