So 300hp track engine or 287hp engine, which one takes to mods better?

Default So 300hp track engine or 287hp engine, which one takes to mods better?

So guys which engine takes to mods better? The track/06 engine, or the pre 06 287hp engine? Is it better to mod one over the other? Im still trying to decide if buying a used 04/05 350z would be worth it(other than saving money) over a new 06. Money is a little tight for me but If its worth stretching the budget for a little while I will.

proven. 300hp engine. mod for mod, the 300hp engine will produce more power due to the variable timing of intake and exhaust as mc350z said.

so in the 06 line the automatic and 6speed, are those 2 different engines? or is that 13hp from the tranny?

The 300hp engine responds better to mods. I've owned and modded both... No comparison.

The only bad thing about the 300 HP engine is that there aren't as many mods out for it since it's newer, right? Or are most of the existing mods usable on the new version?

Also no one has an official SC kit out for the 300 HP engine yet. ProCharger has one that might be available at the end of this year but everyone else won't be sometime until next year.

Just give the shops a little time. They will come out with just as many mods if not more.

Well mod for mod the 300hp engine will respond better because of its stronger internals. I say the 05 track is the best car to mod. If you get an 06 u can mod it but just keep in mind the 03-05's weigh alot less than the 06.

You have intake cam timing. The Rev-UP motor adds variable timing to the exhaust cams.

my friend at Turbo Mag was planning on doing a test article on my new ride. but he told me the '06's come with a new ECU, making it more difficult to modify the car. if the ECU senses any change in fuel/air, it will conpensate or something like that. unless ur planning on changing the ECU, itll be a hardache for those mod shops to juice any HP. hopefully my friend can still write something up on Turbo.

sorta makes me wonder if i shouldve gotten a used Z. i couldnt find any new '05's in southern cali, but being stuck with an '06 is fine with me.

Don't worry, the 06 ECU is probably like the 05 ECU. The 05 ECU likes to dump abunch of fuel even with mods. With all my mods I am still running way rich. The solution is to get a reflash or a Greddy Emanage Ultimate or some other form of a piggyback.

What did you want to know, how variable cam timing works or the difference between the rev up motor vs. the 287 motor?

interesting, I thought the 287 motor with NVCS also had variable exhaust cam timing. Learn something new every day.

As for the ECU compensating.....it's something Nissan does on the lower model cars, making them super extra clean, to give them some leeway on the performance models......the ecu uses the 02 sensors hardcore to keep a nearly perfect 14.7:1 afr at all throttle levels EXCEPT wide open......to maintain maximum efficiency and clean emissions. My turbo 01 Sentra was like that...I've had an Innovate LM-1 wideband on it for about 2 years now.....the only way I could really alter how my fuel was at idle and normal driivng was to just plain disconnect the sensors, haha!

anyways, it wouldn't surprise me if Nissan did that just because of stricter emissions laws or something.
