launching question
hey guys this might sound stupid, how high do you rev up to before you fully release the clutch to laucnhing your car smoothly (regular daliy driving) not racing. Coz I'm have trouble launching the car smoothly and without any chattering or clicking noise. Or is the Chattering and clicking sound normal for our car??
The Chattering gand Clicking noise seems to be more noticable when going up hill. the Steeper the hill the Clicking and Chattering seems to be more noticable.

I want to get a idea about what range it's normal, because I rev it up to 1200-1500 and relase then I'll get clicking and chattering sound.
But if I rev it up pass 2000 rpm and engage the clutch then it's seem to be better. but rev pass 2000 rpm each time to start the car seems too much.

Actually, the chattering noise on a stock 350Z is pretty normal on a standard take off.
I have noticed that after 10K it seems to be less than when I first bought the car. It probably breaks in somewhat.
If you take off quickly or fast you don't seem to get the chatter of the discs I notice. A little more pressure during take off seem to seat the clutch discs and doesn't allow them to vibrate at all.
The car always seems to take off smooth. It's just the type of pressure plate, clutch disc and flywheel they use and the noise it makes.
BTW- I can only hear it with the window down or if I really, really listen.

You should be able to start the car moving with very little to no gas at all on a flat surface. If the clutch chatters, you gave it too much gas.
Concentrate on finding the engagement point of the clutch, then modulate it's engagement with your left foot not your right. Use the right foot to keep the car from stalling and then to accellerate after the clutch is fully engaged. Small inputs, small corrections.

lol yeah i have that chatter problem when i over rev match lol
but imo a little blip should get u from moving and smoothly throwing 1st -> 2nd

how to launch 1 on 1
1. Stop the car on flat surface, left foot stepping the clutch in right foot on gas pedal but not pressing
2. step on gas, rev (depends on what u want, 2500-3000rpm = speed launch, 3500+rpm = show launch) to specific rpm range
3. immediately let go of the clutch while keeping right foot on gas (but not floored) feather it to contorl it (practice)
4. you will either be spinning or going away very quickly
but imo a little blip should get u from moving and smoothly throwing 1st -> 2nd

if u want a smooth transition at start and going through gears, turn vdc OFF
at least i feel i shift like an idiot when vdc is on and it makes the shifting unsmooth. you can give it a little like 1200-1500 to make it going so it doesnt bog or anything
i read one thread that said to do great launches, you should learn how to launch on level surfaces, normal driving, with NO GAS at all. i havent tried it yet, but it sure would teach you a lot about your engagement point.
if you can find that point on flat surface...just keep ur clutch there, blip the gas like jvanquish said and release the clutch, and give it more gas. U'll take off smoothly and quickly
when i was teaching my wife to drive stick (GF back then) she tends to put more gas when launching (As most Newbs does) what i keep telling her that it's not about the gas but it's all about the clutch.... Newbs think that if they don't put gas is that the car will die. Try this, step on the clutch and release it very slowly... when you feel the car is about to move or the RPM suddenly dip a little, that is the engagement point. hold it there and you can see that the car will start to move and once it moved about a 1-2 feet then release the clutch all the way and that car will just roll... if you can feel your clutch and car then you don't have to worry about GAS except if you're on uphill... Gees, i don't even go above 1200 RPM to lunch my car and it's smooth. except when i'm in a hurry...
