ok here is what i am very skeptical about

if you go to Kell Blue Book.com and every other car value website
to my surprise it seems like my 350Z Touring is worth 22K
how did this happen in less than a year?
does the car depreciate that much?
or is the aftermath effect on the car negatives( such as Tire Wear)???
why is that low?
does anyone have an explanation?

What year is your car and what value are you looking at? If you are looking at Trade In then it is going to be very low. 22K seems pretty low because the last time I checked my 03 Enthusiast was still worth close to 21K. I paid 19K for it two months ago. You have to remember with winter coming on the value of RWD sports cars will drop. In the spring they will rebound somewhat.

And you are right about the various TSB issues dropping the value of the 350Z. It has a very high deprciation rate when compared to some of its competitors such as the S2000, Audi TT and BMW M3. The only thing that it means to me though is that I could buy a very low mileage, showroom condition Z for about 4-5K less than any of those other cars and get nearly equal or superior performance.

I learned a long time ago that brand new cars are a great ego trip but a terrible investment.

 

What year is your Z? I also Have a Touring. It's an 03 with 25K miles. I could get 20-22k for it private party sale. Probably only 17k on a dealer trade. I think the depreciation is just natural for all cars. I don't think it has anything to do with any issues the Z had. They always say a new car depreciates about 4k just from driving it off the lot. If you think it is just the Z, check out other car models and see how much they depreciate. I think you'll see the Z is right in line with the others.

and it valued at KBB.com for 22K!

the dealer said they will take 25K for it
but the car was purchased in November 27 of last year, it just comleted its year

 

There is no way a 05 touring has dropped to 22K unless you are looking at trade in and even that sounds low. Hell I will give you 22K for it if it has never been wrecked or dented. And I don't even need another Z.

EDIT: Just checked value for my 03. It is $21095. Don't look at the Trade IN Value. That is for suckers so the dealer can steal your car and then sell it for 5K more.

the s2000 has exclusivity advantage cuz they dont sell much of it and not alot of ppl buy them

 

I won't disagree but in this area of OHIO you see a lot more S2000 than you do 350Z so at least around here the Z is the more exclusive of the two.

Ayman- I just ran your car : 05 Touring, 12,000 miles (average for one year on daily driver), excellent condition. If you sold it to a private individual in my area it would be 26,420. Dealers would charge even more. That is a better reflection of what your car is really worth. Like I said if you are going to trade it in for 22K let me know and I will fly done to Florida with a check and drive it home.

 

The first year of depreciation is generally the largest percentage (based on original MSRP). Each following year the percentage decreases. This is one reason why many buyers look for a 1 year old 350Z.

First year depreciations are the worst. My 04 touring (sticker @ 36k) is worth 24k trade in according to KBB. It has been 18 months since I bought it.

Welcome to buying a new car. That dropoff is standard unfortunately and part of the deal when buying a new one.

Actually, the 350z is (or has been) one of the best cars in its class as far as resale value is concerned.

 

Taurran is right: the Z is one of the better cars for depreciation. The G35 is one of the best.
Strangely enough, I still see used Z's for sale on lots for big money. I just read an ad for 2003 Z Enthusiast for something like $26,700.

 

Dealer was giving me 23k for my 04 touring and it has 10k miles on it

 

Interesting......in 2005, the 2004 Z roadster was in the top five of all cars produced in terms of holding it's resale value.

 

LMAO it says private party for my car is $20,935!!! ROFLMFAO!! I got my car as a base model for $27,900 two years ago. Well I always knew I wouldn't be getting rid of my car unless it was for a Skyline. I told my wife and myself that when I got the car. The next one will be a Skyline. R32, R34, or the new GTR. If it aint one of them I'm keeping it.

 

The majority of the posters in this thread IMHO, have no clue what they're talking about when it comes to the z retaining its value.

I purchased it due to its high resale value, as I did my previous vehicle an Accord coupe.

My touring was purchased a month ago today for $29k....Now, it's private-party resale value is STILL $28.3k!! (EVEN after putting 3,000 miles on it)
