Default Rear Tire Wear on my '05 Z

I took my '05 Z in for it's 15,000 mile check up...there are actually 16k miles on it. Everything checked out except the guy in the service department pointed out that my back tires were pretty worn. I took a look and he was right...they'll definitely need to be replaced in next couple weeks before winter. Isn't it pretty unheard of to wear down those Potenzas after 16k and 8 months of owning the car? Will Bridgestone cover this? I don't do burn outs or anything that would cause this kind of wear.

Not at all. Mileage depends on several factors such as driving style and type of road surface. Wear is not as important as “how “ they are worn. If the wear pattern is even across the tire, you OK(OK except for the fact that you need new tires).

Are OEM tires guaranteed for a particular mileage? Sorry but no.

yeah, you can expect high performance tires to last anywhere from 10k-15k miles depending on how hard you drive so getting 16k miles out of them is not too shabby.

thanks for the responses so far...

Can someone recommend a tire that will last longer? Like I said, I'm not driving these things too hard, but I still need good sticking ability for the winter. How much will these bad boys cost me?

for high performance tires potenzas kinda suck, i might go w/ nitto cause thats all i ever had before, but i'm sure there are better tires out there, i guess it depends on how much you want to sacrafice in performance for longevity, personaly i dont mind 15k and replace, i would just want better grip tires than factory if i have to replace every 15k

There are several threads with recommendations discussing the pros and cons of summer performance vs. performance all-season tires. Please search.

Car and Driver just did a great write up on high performance tires on their website. It includes quite a few different factors, including wear and price. It is worth checking out.

I was thankfully able to get over 28,000 miles on my original rear potenzas. I still have them on my '03. However, in the last few weeks I noticed the cupping issue has developed--on the rear! Did not think the rear had issues. I would rather they had worn out long ago as long as it wore evenly.

Well, my Z only has 800 miles, I'm just waiting for a couple thousand miles to gun it.
We will see how long do the tires last. haha
