Well, I dropped my car off at my local Nissan dealership today at 7:30 to get my new Blizzak's put on (replacing badly worn Bridgestone's in the rear) and have my pesky transmission checked out again. Well, I was happy b/c they gave me a Murano to drive until my car was done (would've been most likely tomorrow). Then, at 2:30, the Service Manager, Danny, calls me at work and tells me that the tech's had wrecked my car. They were checking out the transmission issue, when they were slowing down, the driver downshifted and lost control saying that the brakes locked up.....now, my car sits with what looks like about $2,500 worth of damage to it ....What should I do? The General Manager of the dealership has always been good friends with me and my family...The cop that wrote the accident report told my dad that since the tires on the rear were bald, and the dealership failed to replace them with the new ones before they left on the drive, they're at fault....Insurance info was already exchanged....So, now what should I do/expect? Any help is appreciated....thanks everyone

That sucks, I would request dealership insurance pick-up the claim and they keep you something nice till it's fixed.

I would ask them to fix it, and hand me a cheque for the loss of value, since its been in an accident! That sucks man, and I thought My dealership sucked!!!

As long as the frame isnt bent they can fix like new + you get fresh painted nose. Look at the positives no one hurt get new paint on front FREE + maybe you can get the work done cheaper than the check issued (easy) so you can get some new mods. Also try to think positive and good things will happen.

 

Tell them to give you a new transmission, clutch / flywheel, and check your exhaust valves...

Sounds like they downshifted into the wrong gear and the rear wheels locked up...

ie... Downshift from 4th to 1st rather then to 3rd...

Brakes dont lock up from downshifting, the rear wheels do when you go in a gear to low for the RPM your in though... that causes problems...

 

will this show up as an accident on carfax? if so I would ask them to give me a good deal on trade and get a new on.

 

yes SO SO SO TRUE! it will never be the same! YES, i agree....im like that too...if i were u..i'll tell the dealer to replace the car...the WHOLE CAR..just say u kno wut i dont want it no more..give me a new car and if u want fix the one u crash and sell it as use...i would make sure they give u a SUPER DEAL! SUPER suPER dEAL... u will win no matter wut...its there fault...sucks for the one who crash because there go his job...but thats there fault...

Filing a police report was the first step which you did. And I also suspect that you have the name of the driver.

The only thing left to do is file a claim against Nissan. Since that may be a bit complicated, I advise that you contact your insurance company. Have them negotiate to fix your car. After all that's why you pay premiums.

 

It's not a far fetched idea. $2500 is a lot of damage and the Service Manager knows that. Also a wreck completely ruines the retail value. Tell them you have no use for a wrecked car and you want a new one, and you want all your parts transfered over.

 

That's a very polite request. How about

“Fix my car and have it ready by next Thursday. And hand me the keys to that 350Z over there.”

 

Brakes just dont lock, besides, I think there's something called ABS. Also you need pretty good speed to "lock" the wheels and crash. Usually that wouldn't happen for a test drive, specially "checking the transission".

You handed them a good car, don't take back a beat up car.

I doubt any dealer would ever give a customer a new car if an accident occurs, unless the car is totaled so bad that it's not worth fixing.

I seen an accident in a caddy dealership where the tech got something stuck under the brake pedal and he couldn't stop... he smashed an escalade into a cts into a brick wall... the service advisor took one look and knew he was in deep sht b/c the escalade belonged to a super picky customer. Both customers got no extra compensation except their cars fixed as good as possible at no charge. IMO, there is no way a dealership is gonna give away a new car over an accident.. the dealership's insurance just pays for the repairs.

 

I can't believe these horror stories about dealerships; wrecked cars, bent rims, scrapes and scratches on cars. In competent f***s. Feel for your loss man.

Here's the part I don't understand, just like the stories I've heard about valet parking but even more so with the nissan techs, don't these guys know how to drive? Especially the techs, like guys who valet drive all the time. Sometimes I wonder if this stuff is done out of jealousy.

 

The dealership can deliver you a new car, but your going to buy it just like any other new car. They will want to give you a low trade-in value (especially since it is a wrecked car) and then negotiate with you on the price you are willing to pay for a new one. So in other words, if you want a new car, you will be in a lose-lose situation and the dealership will be in a win-win situation. It sucks, but that is how it will go down, bank on it.

 

I'd be like "***** I want a new TT Z in front of me in 10 minutes or I'm gonna have to get my crew up in hurr with gats".

$2500 is not very much of a repair for a Z in a body shop, but thats not the issue. The dealer's obligation is to have your vehicle repaired and return it to you in an acceptable condition. Granted, you may suffer financially on resale value, but can you prove it, if so you have grounds. I don't know where you can obtain undeniable proof that a repaired car sells less than a accident free car.
