Amen brother! I sent my two kids to college in beaters. You ought to see then now after a few years of abuse - beaten beaters. It's as bad as having a job in a mall and parking it in the middle of the lot every day. There's nothing you can do to keep it from getting door dings, scratches, bump-and-runs, etc.

Handle this on the DL. Looks like all you need is a little paint. Try shecking out the other cars where this happened. If you can get the driver that did this then maybey you can work a deal with them...

Time to go hunting

I would be driving around the parking lot every day until I found the person. I am paranoid enough about my car without having to worry about things like this. I dont even like people to brush up again my car.

I had my entire front bumper repainted and a small gash fixed, the hood repainted and some small acorn dents removed and the spoiler repainted all for about $890. Check around because I got three different quotes ranging all the way to $2,000.

who is "my people"? if you've already talked to your insurance company and they said there would be no rate increase, then I hope you recorded that conversation. if "my people" are your friends or family, then I'd consider my options first. it is true that most insurance companies will not raise your rate if you car was legally parked and someone hit it on the first occurance, however if it just so happens that you end up in this situation again within a 3 yr period, then your insurance company may raise your rate or nonrenew you. if you do report it to your insurance company, then you will have to make a recorded statement of what happened, in which case you will have to disclose that you lent the car to your sister, at which point many insurance companies may require her to be rated and listed as a driver on your policy, given she lives w/ you and doesn't have her own vehicle and insurance. and if she has any chargable tickets or violations, it'll be you paying more for them. now there are a lot of "if's" in what I've said, but I'm only recommending you not making a claim because of the minor nature of your accident. most people who ***** about high insurance rates are those who make tons of stupid small claims on their insurance and don't think it will hurt them. at fault or not, insurance companies don't want to insure someone who treats car insurance like health insurance (i.e. making claims for every little thing). then again, if you really need a new bumper and the cost ends up being $1000+ then its probably worth it....

My pops told me that there is no increase in insurance rates..i'm assuming he knows what's going on. I would not like to disclose that she had the car parked either, due to increase of insurance and stuff like that..
To tell you the truth i just want to go back to how things were yesterday, just fine with no headaches. Is it expensive to re-sand/repaint that area and replace splashguard..will the paint match, and not have problems in the years to come..thats the only thing.

its quite likely that pops is right. most insurance companies will not raise your rate for the first parked claim you make, but just make sure to weigh you decision prior to making it. I'd get some estimates from reputable shops first so you know what the cost will be. if its under a $1000, I'd try to handle it on your own. if its over the $1000, then maybe making a claim is the way to go. but just keep in mind the consequences, they will take a statement from you, they will ask who parked the car, they will put her on your insurance if they feel she's a risk to the policy, which may cost you more. plus you will not have a claims listed, given its a not-at-fault claim, its still a claim which if you end up with more will raise your rates. also the claim may show up on a carfax report later which may mean a lower resale value.

as for the paint, most decent paint shops will be able to color match your paint. and it will be pretty darn close, there is no such thing as exact (due to too many variables) but it will be most likely not be discernable. if its just paint and primer missing and there is no cracking, then there should be no need to replace the part, if there is any cracking buy new parts. also make sure to inspect the work done in the sunlight prior to taking the vehicle home from the body shop. good luck.
