Default Someone got my ride w/ a hit & run!

This seriously blows, as the car is a month old..
My sister came back to the parking lot of her school to find this:
http://img505.imageshack.us/my.php?i...ture0037kc.jpg

This issue has never occured before, and she talked to some people at the school and they said they saw some girl back into it and just drove off. We on the other hand are left with a headache, $500 deductable to deal with, and pretty much clueless as to what the next step should be.
(Too late to file a police report now sice she left..)

What do you guys suggest as to what i should do next?? I'm thinking we're SOL and have to find some place to a)re-paint scratched area and replace splashguard b)replace/repaint whole bumper & splashguard.
I have no idea how much re-painting actually runs, what are your experiences on repainting a whole bumper?

Any way I could actually benefit from this occurance, like getting a better bumper or something?

Thanks for taking time to read this and any suggestions you post.

Hello Niko,

Sorry to hear yourtroubles. I also got my UY '05 Enthusiast a month ago. I know I would be po'd. I suggest you go for the new bumper. Repairs will probably cost more than a new piece would. Don't be afraid to "MOD the BOD"

Don't lift off the gas until they see your taillights!!

Guys, thanks for your quick responses..yea we all go through some bad stuff here and there, just disappointed that it was the Z it happened to..especially since i recently got it, and drove it only 3 times.
Having a $500 deductable, how would I play it out to get a new bumper, since they're really expensive, like $700 and up + shipping. In addition to that, I'd have to have someone re-paint it + install it. Looking at much over $1000. wow.

Sorry to see and hear about your Z . Just hunt for a shop that specializes in small collisions etc...it may be cheaper than 500 bucks. Go to your Nissan dealership and ask some service reps if they have a shop they use for their body repairs. It's worth a shot...good luck.

I wouldn't even bother going through the insurance especially with a $500 deductible. Just buy yourself a nice aftermarket bumper or even look around here a used 1 for now! Good Luck man!

If you have witnesses that saw the girl hit it then it is not too late to file the police report. You most likely don't need one if they are willing to make a statement with the insurance company, but the police will be able to help you get her insurance information if the witnesses were able to get a tag number. The insurance company can also get that information though I'm sure. Good luck.

Whoa..sorry to see that. I parked my car right up against a curb today at lunch and a 6 foot plus woman passenger in a 4 door BMW flings her door open. After checking my shorts, I realized that I had indeed parked far enough away and she missed me, but I was already moving towards the door to make war. There is still peace throughout the Southland.

If you have any kind of description of what car hit you, I'd take a drive around campus on Monday. Some dumb ***** is going to park somewhere close to that spot again with a red scratch on her car, you just have to find her.

sorry to see that...but first off why would you let your sister drive your Z? I wouldn't let anyone drive my Z. the one time I had one of my cars hit while parked, some people who saw it happen were cool enough to leave a note including the lic plate of the guy who did it and their own name and number in case I needed a witness. that was super cool of those folks. judging from that photo you have I'd say the mudguard is definately shot and if any part of the bumper is cracked then you'll have to replace it. if not then you might be able to get it repainted for less than $500 if you know the right people. I also wouldn't recommend going through insurance on this with your deductable. you might end up paying more in insurance premiums later, and it wouldn't be worth it since you'd get very little from them now. if you do end up having to buy a new bumper, I would definately go aftermarket. why not? good luck.

So far i've discussed with my people that there's no increase in insurance if i file a claim. So preferrably, i would like a new bumper freshly painted and installed. I guess i have to take it in for an estimate and see what I can get done. Those aftermarket bumpers run around 1k..and i have no idea how i could get that sum from the damage seen.

Thanks for the responses though.

no, in college you don't get a Z "and" a beater....you just have a beater......$30k sports cars aren't for college students....that's why so many of them file bankruptcy right after graduation.
