Default My fifth narrowly-avoided near-certain death experience

I was coming up on a red light, doing a little over speedlimit, and just when i was getting ready to slow down and stop, the light turned green. So i let go of the brakes, shifted back up to 3rd, and gave it some gas. That's when i looked to my left and realized that a Toyota heading towards the red light on the other side of the intersection was going a little too fast to stop. At that moment, both of us were doing about 70km/hr and it hit me: it's not GOING to stop! I held my breath and slammed the brakes. The ABS kicked in and i could feel it grinding as my car came to a screeching stop about a meter away from the Camry, which surely enough, flew right through the red.

Thank God i wasn't going 5km/hr faster. Thank God the other car wasn't driving 3 feet closer to the right. Thank God it was +5C and not -1C. Thank God i turned my head then and not 1/10th of a second later. Thank God i reacted so quickly. Thank God my brakes are nearly new. Thank God the dealer spotted a problem with my front tires three weeks ago and put on new ones. Thank God these and a thousand other factors that could have easily not been in my favor, were. Had they not, i would have been T-boned at 70km/hr, thrown against a giant concrete bridge pillar, and sandwiched inbetween. There would have been nothing left of me or my car. I'm an agnostic, but i admittedly drew a cross in the air as i was sitting there and realizing what had just happened.

I finally released my breath and took a quick look around. Every car on both streets was now standing still and the only one that was still moving, rather quickly away from us, was... you guessed it, the Corolla. When i realized that the ******* that had just nearly killed me was now trying to get away, i once again slammed the pedal, this time the gas. His 150hp was no match for my 300 and seconds later, i was next to him. Without even thinking, i swerved in front of his car, forcing him to stop. I jumped out of the car, fully intending to kick some serious ***, i realized that the driver was a middle-aged woman. ****! And i couldn't even call the cops because that would only cost me an hour of time and a 100-dollar ticket for forgetting my ownership papers at home.

On the bright side, at least i'm not dead.

Only for a minute or two. Didn't want to let her waste my time and ruin my mood in addition to nearly killing me

I can't believe you chased that car down and forced her to stop like that. Next time, consider the possibility that the other driver has

1. a gun, no morals and a bad temper,
2. 250 lbs of muscle, 3 equally large friends, a fifth of vodka going through their system, no morals and a bad temper, or
3. bad brakes, bad tires, and bad reflexes.

I would have chased the other car down too, but that is just me. The only thing I am truly afraid of is spiders and I am not talking about the kind that have 4 wheels. I would have given her a slight beating and a severe lecture prior to calling my friends in to run a train on her right over the hood of her car while I video taped the whole thing for her family... Yellow means caution, not speed up!

Good point. Getting into a car chase is dumb. Nothing good can come out of it. I dont even shoot the finger because it can snowball into a damn shooting or an attack on the car. And maybe you need to scan ahead and see if cross traffic has stopped, b4 accelerating thru a green light. this is basic.

I also agree although IMO, realistically in this day and age
Only number 1. would truly hold water. Nowdays the size, muscle or number of people etc.. dont account for much if any, when a firearm is involved, which nowdays is all too frequent

Be safe and control that ole temper people, its not worth getting whacked over it.

Peace

Come on guys, you with your guns This city has 7,000,000 people and only a handful get killed by firearms annually. We're talking odds of 1,000,000:1 or less. Factor in the fact that nearly all the murders happen at night and you've got daytime odds of about 5,000,000:1 per year.

Yup, but regardless of the actual figure, chasing someone will not help anything, By the way what were you excepting to do to the other driver????

Oh and just a side note... T.O has the worse statistics for gun crime... did you not hear about the young lad that was killed at his friends funeral (in church) the funeral was for a lad who was shot earlyer last week....

not to be rude or anything but thats just dumb!!!!!! now a day you never know who is behind the wheel, like someone else said you dont know if they have a gun, or if the person is some crazy killer etc.

is it really worth getting that worked up over something so simple, best thing to do is to follow that person call in the plates and let the cops do their jobs... you can still follow the car till the cops stop the person but atleast have some back up when you talk to the person.

i used to be hot headed but now i think before i act, there i no reason to act all manly and like you are a bad ***.

cause in the end you can becomes someones ***** or fill up a body bag.

the only way i fight or get in someone face is if they hit me, other than that i just stay away and save myself some legal fees.. live and learn lol

Lesson to be learned here... don't speed especially when coming up on an intersection. Glad you and your Z are ok. I always stop at a yellow cuz you never know what might happen like in your case... someone running the red which is very frequent here in LA.

Canada is pretty strict when it comes to guns. There are really no gun stores in Canada. Only hunting stores that sell rifles. That is one of the biggest difference from Canada and the US. I still couldn't get over the time I visted my friends in the state and we drove by a gun store and it had a Valentine day sale on guns.

It's just one of the things that you don't worry about up north. People just don't have guns.

PS: I heard somewhere that the biggest time for gun sales is Valentine to mother's day. Wonder if it's true or an urban legend.

Disclaimer: I did not say guns are good or guns are bad. Nothing in my post suggested that so please let's not make this into a guns thread.

Thats not true Young,
We just dont worry as much as the US as we have more restrictions.....
Legal guns arent really the problem, but rather the illegal ones that mostly make their way here from the US

Yeah following is fine and calling the police to report their license plate is sufficient. I have had to do that several times here in Dallas...the road rage is out of control. As you stated thank god you had all those things taken care of prior to the incident. I would have been boiling as well, but sometimes it's better to breathe in and out and move on. A few minutes of rage can put quite a damper on the rest of your life if you are not careful.
