Lightbulb 350 Z Base Cruise control solution

Ok, here it goes... I have been reading all posts that state it cannot be done. This is just not in my vocabulary. Therefore, here is a little solution for the base model cruise control... Use a generic cruise control, like a Rostra Ultra Cruise II. It requires the following electrical connections; power, ground, brake, VSS, Tach and an accessory power. All of these are available in our 350Z’s. The VSS wire is in pin 26, gray 16-pin plug, at the Unified Meter and A/C Amp behind the A/C controls in the center console. In addition, the Tach wire is the blue one located at any one of the coils. Ok that takes care of the easy part. Now we want to have the throttle actuator grab a throttle cable, this is usually done underneath the hood. Run the cable into the inside of the car and have it grab and pull the accelerator pedal. The reason why the cruise control module is located in the engine compartment is because of the noise that is generated by the module is annoying. Hope this sheds some light on the dismal “350Z Base Cruise Control Issue”

What throttle cable are you planning on grabbing? The throttle body on our cars is computer controlled. Thats an electric servo motor openign and closing the butterly in the throttle body. There is no cable attached to your gas pedal.

I think what he is saying is buy a cable and attach it so it pulls on the gas pedal and not the TB.

It might just work, the only thing you might have to do is work on how to attach it so your cable mechanism gets the proper throw and leverage on the accelerator pedal.

I don't see what's so great about cruise control anyways.. I drove from alabama to maine (1700 miles one way) and then back again, stopping for gas and naps, and not once did I ever think "man, I wish I had cruise control!" I think having to drive the car yourself keeps you more alert and paying attention to what is going on around you.

Yes you will have to fabricate a bracket that will cause a pulling action for the pedal itself...you never try to get to the throttle body. Hence the routing of the acuator cable into the interior and attatching it to the gas pedal....

Ok, here I have your solution: STOP wasting your time.
Go put on a exhaust or something...(Just joking, everyones different) However, my opinion is that cruise control sucks. Who the hell uses that on a 350z???
I have it but I will never use it ...even on long drives.

Unless you REALLY know what you're doing, attempting this could be very dangerous. Imagine what will happen if it get's stuck or jammed somehow.

Also why do you need cruise control on a sports car, I had it on my mustang and never used it.

I use it all the time and would probably miss it if it were gone but I doubt that it would motivate me to throw together some McGuiver rig to get it back...

What you are proposing could be very dangerous WildOne...

I've taken two road trips in my Z so far, one 12 hrs the other 8 hrs (one way). That's a little too long to keep your foot still on the pedal. Unless you're driving a mail truck in town, a cruise control is a must!

Thumbs down Say NO to Cruise Control

Cruise Control?? Never had it or needed it on any of my Sports Cars (all MT, except a Fiero GT). IMHO, Sports Cars aren't for taking cross country trips or even 8 or 10 hour drives. Plus, I don't even DRIVE ..EVER...more than a few hours away..any MORE than that..my azz is on a MF PLANE, buddy!

That's why God created Enterprise Rent-A-Car Put the miles on a MF rental car, plus...if you're driving long distance, you probably need more trunk space anyway + might be taking more than 1 other person.

When and IF I upgrade from my Base Z to a Performance, Track or whatever, I'd try to negotiate to have a custom made Z WITHOUT snooze control and ask them to put to install leather seats or something else instead....LOL

You keep on saying "you need to do this...and you need to do that"...well, go on and do it! If you feel it is possible, try it. If you feel like you have all the necessary components, try it. Oh, and dont worry about me getting my Z...that IS going to happen, unlike your frivolous attempt at adding cruise control.
