What to do about wheel locks?
ok, i bought the car from someone who took it in to the dealership for everything, they didnt have the wheel lock key with them(so that means the dealership prolly kept it.
anyways, im driving to texas in about a week. i went in today cause they said on the phone that they can just sell me a new set for $45. so i show up and they said something about labor, i said how much is labor to take the ones off: they said $93. i said forget that, i can go back there and take it off if they give me the right key!lol.
anyways, im supposed to be going back monday to get them to order the key i need. and that it would take at least 2 weeks. is there somewhere i can get the key in a week?
and would ya'll take the chance on driving 600 miles without that key?

Stay away from the dealer and just have it done yourself. You can buy the locks almost anywhere and just about any tire shop should be able to get the old ones off without damaging anything...
I bought my Z used last year and it had Nissan wheel locks on it. There was no wheel key to be found.
I used a 2' breaker bar with a socket attached to it (21mm, 22mm, or 23mm, can't remember which). I attached the socket to the breaker bar and held it on a wheel lock, straightened out the breaker bar so that when I hammered the end of it it would push it onto the wheel lock, and then hammered the end over a lock.
The hardest part was getting each lock out of the socket.
There are other ways to do it, but this worked for me.
Oh, I also wrapped the socket with tape to protect the wheel finish.
