All you Z traitors!!!! You would trade your Z for an M3 Shame on all of you !!!! I would never betray the Z!!! Ok so what I'm lying, I would do the same if I had the chance to get into an M3.

Get the z! It's funny how much love the m3 gets. Not saying I woudn't like one if I was rolling in cash but the first time I went in for maintenance I would kick my own ***. The z is quite the performer and will hold it's own with an m3 on the track.

Reason for doing so is that Im looking to buy a house and eliminating a car payment would be beneficial. Though I dont owe much left on the M3, I just rather not have a car payment and buy a used car outright..and then have some spare money for mods.
Just wanted to get some thoughts from you all about the debate between the Z (performance or track) and the G35 coupe.
-The car will never be stay stock..
-A backseat is not mandatory for me..
-Eventually the car will be FI..
Thanks in advance...

keep your car for another year, then take a look at the new 2007 G35. If you must buy now, the Z will give you a feel more like the M3.

It looks as if no one has touched on the Performance/Enthusiast/Track option of the 350Z.
Clearly the no backseat says 350Z. Despite being a '04 Track owner (didn't intend to modify) I think that the Performance would be a fine choice. You have traction control - HID - aesthetic spoilers. Look in the 2004-05 range to avoid problems. I'm at 22k with NO PROBLEMS yet!

Here where I live, you can get a used m3 for $70,000cdn, a used 350Z for $30,000cdn.
Even if I had the $70,000cdn, I'd still buy the 350Z and spend some of the saved money on building the motor and FI the car. Why? Because I love the look of the 350Z. It's a 2 seater rear-wheel drive sports car that looks like a sports car. If I wanted a 4 seater sedan, I would have looked at buying a 4 seater sedan.
As for the original poster, you are in a unique position that I haven't been in so I can't really give you a solid advice. I bought the 350Z 40% performance and 60% looks. I didn't buy it to be the fast and the furious, I didn't buy it to enter pro racing or turn it into a drag monster. I bought it because I loved the look of the car, it could pass most cars on the highway, and I couldn't afford a TT300ZX when I was in college but now I have a Z finally. And as a fan of the Z, I would never cross over to the M, or cross over to the M so quickly like others have been saying here

As expected...with this forum, Im getting votes for the Z and on G35driver, Im getting both votes for the Z and the G... I think Im pretty much set on the Z unless I can find a great deal on a G that negates the price difference. I do love to have plushness in a car, but I think the Z would be more fitting for my current goal of building a FI car again...

I changed because my M3 was costing me too much money (when it broke) and I couldnt get it serviced locally( I live in BFE pretty much ).. $7,500 repair bill to fix what a local shop did, 4 sets of tires, 5 trips to alignment shop in one yr still tires wore horridly. Dont get me wrong I loved the M3, had more power and better feel stock. The Z was just cheap and cheap to mod. I lost 30k in one yr with the M3 counting depreciation and fixing problems. HA HA scary to add it up,hadnt really noticed =( .

But I do agree that the Z is cheaper to mod..though it might not feel "as nice" its still a great foundation to work on..which is what I want to do. Plus its going to free me up from a car payment which ill just apply to a house.

Go with Z!
My bestfriend/ Old roommate has an 03 M3. I used to drive the car all the time. Great feel for a stock Car. Very expensive to mod and they are so highly tuned, hard to get a lot hp with mods. I have a PPW performance Z. Love the feel. Great power! I had the same issue as most with the Z or G! Once I test drove the Z, sold me. Better handling and when ur in a Z, U feel like ur in a sports car. Not like the G. If ur plannin to build. Go with the Z. The lighter the car the better! Like the G, but i'm a sports car guy!

Get a Z man and since you will have some $ left over... you can work on the bottom end and boost it like u said. When I was buying my car I also looked into the M3 but I chose the Z cuz of 2 reason's... it was cheaper and the performance of the 2 cars aren't very far apart. Plus the Z looks better IMO. The m3 was a beast to drive but I had more fun driving the Z even though it wasn't as fast. Watch once you have a fully built VQ with a full turbo kit and exhaust... you will be saying to yourself what M3? Lol.
