as for the domestic compared to jap cars i have a few things to say. yes the mustange comes with your "wonderful" v8 and the z only has a v6. well it may not be 03 z's case but for the majority of the time the japense cars will out last those piece of ***t domestic cars anyday. and as for this v8 v6 crap look at what you get! the engine wieghs more produces the same as the v6 in horsepower and still eats gas like your fat grandmother eats that pumpkin pie on thanksgiving! my v6 can come close if not beat the stangs v8 and still have gas left to make it to the gas station. imo japanese cars are the best thing yet, america you need to get your ***t in line!!! anyone agree?

I myself own a V6 05 Mustang...
I can tell you now that I would get my @$$ kicked by a Z....
Don't be dissin' the mustangs looks though.... I believe that it is really good looking. The Z is a completely different car... a mustang handles like crap... every little thing is plastic... and you hear everything.. but so what.. I still like the look of the car. Add some bullits to it and louvers and a v6 will look nice... (that's what I did to mine)

Performance: v6 Stang - 350z - GT Stang
Handling: v6 Stang - GT Stang - 350z
Street Cred: v6 Stang - Honda Civic - GT Stang - 350z

haha thought I'd throw in a lil joke
oh well

The Mustang has ALWAYS beat the Z in Sales, even in 1970. Oh, and the Corvette, Camaro, all Ferrari's, etc. In fact it has outsold every two door since 1965. Does it make it a better car than all other 2 doors? It is a good car for the class it is in, fun to drive, and VERY reasonalbly prices. A lot of owners appreciate that, even in it's lesser forms such as the base model.

It also has a lot of heritage to draw upon for repeat sales.

To me its like saying the mustang beats the 350z in squirrling running over compitition, who cares.

Start compareing features, packages, and you can see who is show and who is go.

What i allways find funny is if nissan can make a 287HP v6 engine and you see that fords is 210 hp? dont you ever wonder what the hell are they doing makeing that pos? the 2006 eclipse is doing 260/260.

Can only imagine what nissan can do with a v8 if they want too.

Hold on everyone, to those of you saying you hope the Z doesn't get a spotlight which would make a bunch of people buy them...well, the 350z is going to be playing a huge role in the 3rd fast and furious movie...so everyone and their brother is gonna go buy one and try to drift it.

Are you serious? They are making a 3rd one? Ohh for god sake, who is watching these terrible movies? Is the average American that easily entertained? I am very dissapointed...

Damn! Don't the producers of fast and furious know that the new Mustang won the "Showroom Showdown" article by Dan Lienert!?

They need to feature the new mustang and rewrite the screenplay right away!

We need to find a way to stop them from using the Z in such a horrible movie. This news has taken away every shred of hope that I had for my fellow Americans. The average IQ must be lower than I thought for movies like this to actually sell tickets...

I rented a 05 V6 Mustang, and it shouldn't be even compared to the Z. It should be placed in a completely different category. I don't understand why this article even bothers comparing the two. I just hope the GT version is leaps and bounds better than the V6 version on all regards--Power, handling, and braking, because the V6 version had horrible handling and brakes. I ran the car at Infineon, and I was laughing the whole time because it just plowed everywhere. I felt like I was driving a truck.

As for the comment about sales - I find it DISTURBING that the masses don't see what we see in the Z. We maybe missing something or maybe its the name "mustang" that attracts people.

I am for one will be VERY honest and admit that I am disheartened when I see the Z losing to the Stang and RX-8. Then I have never driven a new stang or rx – so I could just be ignorant of those cars and what they have to offer.
I've driven the RX-8 and a 04 Cobra R. The handling of the RX-8 is something that I've never felt before, as well as how comfortable I was in it. The Cobra made me feel really REALLY small and I'm 6'2"...I felt short in it and it was by the far the most powerful car I've ever driven. I've been in Evo 8's and STI's but the pull of the Cobra was something else.

Also consider that the Mustang has a lot of trims with a lot of changes. Each of the trim differences in the Z are nothing but asthetic changes; no turbo/supercharged model, no slightly better engine...its all the same. That is one thing that turned me away from the Z at first but I'm certain I've made the right choice.

As for the RX-8...other than the handling I don't think it has anything over the Z, it's not at all better looking, it doesn't FEEL more powerful but it is a tad bit more fun to drive although the clutch sucks! It's like pushing on a marshmellow, NO give back at all.

While I agree that those were the original muscle cars, the current crop of Pony cars and other performance cars can eke out the same level of straight line performance in a far more efficient package. I used to own a 67 Ford Fairlane 427 and while it was fairly fast in a straight line, my G coupe would get beat by it but not get it's a$$ handed to it by the fairlane. The old powerplants just were not efficient at making power out of the displacement that have. Example, the 427 in my 'lane was good for somewhere in the neghiborhood of 400-425 GROSS HP stock, In modern RWHP terms that is probably around 325 rwhp. Compare that to the C6 Z06 which will make easily 100 more and more likely 125 more RWHP and then consider that fact that those gross ratings were through fairly open exhausts and no cats or other emissions. Give the Z06 motor the same benefits and it will probably make 475 ish RWHP. Hell, Z's and G's are nearing the same rwhp as the old big blocks with exactly half the displacement.

Thank you for such a clear response to the question of what constitutes a "Muscle car". I was going to argue the point but decided against it. I understand what the writer is saying but don't agree with all of it.

I think the newer "muscle" cars lack the character of their ancestors but there are things the new ones have the old ones can't match. Those you mentioned plus these newer ones have brakes that actually stop you before the county line. Suspensions that will actually allow you to make a bend at speeds above 40 MPH. The older ones had the aerodynamics of a Greyhound bus. And these weigh considerably more then anything you see nowadays.

Still, if I had a choice between my 02 Z28 and a 69 RS/SS, I'd take the 69. Or a Shelby, or a Chevelle, and hell, I might even take the right Javelin. They have a class and look that will never be matched in my opinion. Kinda like looking at jet fighters. Yeah, they are cool but they will never get the blood flowing like a P51 or Thunderbolt screaming overhead from WWII does.

I for one, hope the Z never becomes as popular as the Mustang. I love my Z to death, don't give a damn what other people think about it. Mustang is a "Me Too!" car, hope to god the Z doesn't become one aswell.

05 GT's are good cars. Yeah they have the typical American stereotypes of bad handling, big, fall apart easily, etc. I think the 05 GT's are great looking cars and would have one if it wasn't for the Z, which I love. As far as performance goes the 05 GT should be able to handle the Z without too much trouble. Mustangs can become beasts easily with a lot less money than it could be done with the Z, which is nice if your into aftermarket stuff. I am a muscle car lover, as well as Japanese sports cars, but it pisses me off when people say a Nissan V6 is putting out what a Ford V8 is putting out. Yes that is true, but why do you think it is so hard to make power out of the Z? That's because they are already pushing out nearly as much as they can outta the engine. The V8 isn't putting out all it has, which is why it is easy to mod and gets better gains out of mods than the Z. Just my thoughts...
