Default Tuning Inquiries!!

first off, let me introduce myself, i have driven my Z for about a year or so now, and i came from an S2000, so i dunno much about the nissan engine and how it works etc...
now that my wife is "restricting me" that i can only spent approximately 30k Canadian on my car, I would like to ask for opinions and suggestions from you experts~

first, my S2000 didnt quite put out since my last tuning experience was a bad one, some stupid mechanic that did a total nightmare supercharger installing job on my S2000, i was having all sorts of problems...i hope i wont encounter this problem again with my "moderately" new Z!~

my question being, would 30k really get my car to my goals of ...

1) boosting it to approximately 500whp+
2) get a unique body kit or some sort so its different from all the Zs i see in the neighbourhood
3) a decent suspension setup to maintain high speed in cornering (i track occasionally)
4) upgraded brakes, gauges, boost controllers......etc

sorry for long post~

the best way is to try and see for yourself.

We have a meet this Sunday afternoon at 2pm at Silvercity Richmond's parking lot. It's my welcome back meet. Swing by at 2pm. I'll have my TT Z there to give you a ride in to determine for yourself.

And to answer your questions...yes 30K can get you to 500rwhp, yes you can get a unique body kit, yes you can get a decent suspension setup, yes you can get brakes, gauges, etc.

The best bet is still to come and see for yourself, There will be a few Z's there, and a lot of G's. But I have everything you have just mentioned, and some more. Just check your schedule to see if you are free.

Here's the sign-up thread:

To reach your power goal, you're going to have to build the motor. A complete F/I setup will run you anywhere between 10-15K not including the motor build, which will run you probably another ~10K with labor. New wheels/tires to handle the power will run you between 2 and 4K. Suspension mods will run between 3 and 5K depending on how elaborate you get. Body kits vary widely in price and quality, but plan on 1.5-2K plus paint and install (which can easily run another 2K for a quality job). A big brake kit will run between 2 and 8K plus install.

If you assume reasonable case scenario:

Motor Build: 10K
F/I setup: 15K
Wheels/tires: 4K
Suspension: 4K
Body Kit: 3K
Brakes: 4K

Total: 40K

This is of course a VERY rough estimate AND it's a US Dollars estimate. I'm not aware of the exchange rate.

40k US is about 46,900CAD

It will if you forgo some of the other stuff. Body kit? ehh, I would rather have the hp. Suspension, wheels/tires can be adjusted. I think Kelly gave a good estimate on the prices, but don't forget, there are some really good deals out there, and these prices will change as he builds the car. I think over the next year or two you will see alot of new products coming out that will drive current prices down a bit.

I think you can do it. You know your budget, now just plug and play with items you want and make it work.

so is he saying $30k in mods only.... or $30k for car + mods. just curious b/c
for someone on a budget 30k is a pretty high in my opinion. and if he can get
car + additional $30K in mods then why a Z? that's like $50-60K!

if you can do it yourself you could hit your goal. not labor included though.

30k should be no problem.. just get a stroker kit = a rebuild and then maybe a APS kit for the whole engine.. stroke it to 4.3 with AEBS... you can easily hit 500 hp with a good twin turbo kit and a good tune.

That may work, but there isn't much experience with the stroker kit and F/I (I have only heard of one person trying it, and never heard the results). Given that your coming off a bad experiance with your S2K, I would advise you to stay with the more "main stream" solutions to upping the HP. A built long block from SGP is around 6K, so that would reduce the costs stated above by around $4K. I also think that $4K for suspension is really high, should be more like $2K. Forgo the body kit at $3K and thats a total of $9K off the original estimate. Its within the target. Either don't show the reciepts and assure the wife that its within budget, or just over spend and ask forgivness. It'll be pretty close.

Good Luck

I was trying to include ball-park labor costs as well and the usual "miscellaneous ****" that nobody thinks about. Motor swaps aren't cheap.

Suspension: A Tein Flex setup with EDFC is $2K. Add in sways and a camber kit, you'r pushing $3K, not including the labor to install it all and have the car aligned.

And yeah, body kits are definitely optional, but he did say that this was part of his budget.

I think 40K is a reasonable ball park for all the things he listed.

40K CAD or USD that makes a difference...
perhaps either lower the goal or take away certain mods that are not necessarily in the pursue of performance...but ill surely love a body kit on my car but thats just me
