Members will disagree, but the OEM tires cant possibly be the worse tires available. On the other hand, I prefer my current tires. The Goodyear tires are very confident especially in the rain.

dont you want to avoid chirping your tires when you race because arent you losing time from them slipping? plus its a possible risk of sliding out and wrecking... I myself, never churped at the track, but thats because it was sticky from the VHT, but on the street ive churped 1-2nd... never 2-3rd

The tires lasted me 10k miles. Which is not to bad. Gripping and road noise on the other hand they were horrible.

They aren't too bad. They definitely aren't the best. But I can say they are better than my Dunlop all seasons. Although my Dunlops are definitely better in the snow, . Makes sense I guess.

My first set of Potenza's only lasted about 12k. The second set lasted about 16k. I guess grip was okay but noise, short lifespan and feathering were just too much. Switched to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S and I get better grip than the stock Potenzas in both dry and wet weather. Plus, no feathering. (Knock on wood.)

To the OP, I have a base model as well, but '05. I really didn't think anything of not having Limited Slip Differential or Vehicle Stability Control. Well, i'm missing it now. In september when it was nice and warm, they operated fine for me.

Now that its cold and wet out, they can't grip worth anything. They are not the worst, but they aren't the best. I chirp in 2nd gear sometimes, but never 3rd. I never fully opened it up though. I only have 1300 miles no it, so I still baby it.

On a side note, how many miles are you suposed to get out of these tires? And if they don't hit the milage they are suposed to get, will Nissan replace them for free? $800 to replace bad tires every 10,000 miles seems like a lot.

22K miles on the 555's in the front and about 1/3-1/4" of tread left. No feathering and I haven't gotten it aligned since April.

Hoping to get around 30K out of them.

The base comes with 17" tires. I just looked them up on Tirerack.com and they seem to get good reviews. 8.3 / 10 in dry condition and 7.8 / 10 in raid. Pretty good considering they got about 4,000 reviews.

Real cheap to, about $90 a tire.

I replaced my Potenzas with Kumho Ecsta ASX's and I haven't noticed any difference in terms of drag times. Now I can chirp when I take off since they're a harder compound....but performance wise I think they're great. Plus...they're ~$100 a tire....

Potenza RE040 (stock)
Look at the stock tire reviews. They are $185 for the Front, and $190 for the rear. Look at the review scores!

Dry Traction - 8.0
Wet Traction - 6.3
Hydro Resistance - 6.1
Snow Traction - N/A (summer tire)
Cornering Stability - 7.5
Steering Response - 7.6
Ride Comfort - 5.8
Noise Comfort- 5.1
Tread Wear- 4.3
Average - 6.33 (didn't count snow traction)

Kumho ECSTA ASX , Front tires cost $91 and Rear tires cost $106

Dry Traction - 8.6
Wet Traction - 8.2
Hydro Resistance - 8.2
Snow Traction - 7.1
Cornering Stability - 8.0
Steering Response - 8.1
Ride Comfort - 8.4
Noise Comfort- 8.3
Tread Wear- 8.1
Average - 8.11 (including snow traction) 8.23 (excluding snow traction)

Yeah, I know what i'm going to buy when my Potenza's wear out. 736 to give these kinds of averages is pretty good.

Uhm, I cut a LOT of 1.9's on my Potenza's, even when they were near bald. Again this is easier with an automatic, but lower the pressure and heat them up a tiny bit and I can stall up to 2500 and just bite.

i'm sorry but when i go around an acute angle at a normal speed and my back end brakes out, temp 70- w/ trac con off. (oh its fun as hell but) me thinks tires arent that great. i honestly cant wait to wear these b!tches out to get some wider/better tires on her.

but i do admitt this is my first rw drive car so then again maybe thats normal and i'm stupid

Ok, excuse my newbie-ness, but cut 1.9's? 60ft 2.0's? What are you talking about?
