Question Mirror compass

I noticed on nissan's website, that there is an available mirror which has the auto-dimming/homelink feature, but it also has a compass. I didnt think the normal homelink/auto-dimming mirror had a compass...is this something new for 06? I wonder if this is something a dealer can add-on.

i believe that no Z was ever shipped from the factory with a compass but they are available from Nissan. Anyone know for sure? Maybe someone from Performance Nissan could give you a part number.

It is shown on the nissanusa.com website that it is an available feature. I was just wondering why they didnt use that one instead of the one w/o the compass.

Probably, Nissan figured no one needed the compass because they would just get the Navigation system instead. Considering navi is only a factory-installed option, it seems like they could have selected the mirror (with or without compass) based on the navi configuration. Or, perhaps they figured they could make an extra 250-300 bones when we all upgrade!

Are you saying that it CANNOT be used on anything except the base model?

No, If you buy the compass mirror and you already have the homelink only (no compass) mirror you can simply replace your homelink mirror with the compass homelink mirror because the power wiring for the mirrors is already installed in your car.
If you have a base Z without the homelink mirror, you don't have the wiring built into your car, it will have to be added. The compass homelink mirror kit you buy from nissan has the wiring harness included with it.
After you install the compass mirror you can sell your homelink mirror and the wiring harness that came with the compass mirror to someone with the base mirror so they can upgrade to the homelink mirror.
