As most of you already know, the 2006 350z weighs more then the 03-05 350z's. Anyone know what they added that caused the weight to go up ? My 04 350z weighed 3100 lbs where as the new ones weigh 3400. My car recently got totalled and was wondering because I might be in the market for the 2006 and wanted to see if I'd be able to get rid of that extra weight. So if anyone knows where that extra weight is please chime in here

 

Well, it's a moot point since they handle almost identically. I know because I've driven an 05 and 06 back to back. So, no need to worry.

I'm pretty sure they added more sound deadening material because my buddy with and 03 agreed with me that the 06 is soooo much quieter than the 03. The 03 is very loud compared to the 06 ride.

 

Hmm interesting. Keep it coming guys this is very interesting. However I'm sure its not only sound deadening stuff unless the WHOLE CABIN seems quieter.

 

yes it would. This has been one thing that I have pondered. Cause I always read great reviews about the Z saying how fast it is, and I was shocked to find out that it weighs more than a corvette. The only reason I won't go vette is because I don't like American cars. But I too am curious to the modifications in the 06 that up the weight.

I had an '05, but got an '06 yesterday, and I have to agree, it is WAY quieter than my '05 or my husband's '03 were.

 

Ya I'm sure there is other stuff but lemme tell ya me and my buddy both agreed that the 06 is a totally different car than the 03. For example the clutch on the 03 is SUPER STIFF while the clutch on the 06 is buttery soft. The shifting on the 06 is also smoother and shorter. And the brakes are much better on the 06.

Basically the 06 is a great daily driver and great for long trips and the 03 is more of a raw version of the 06.

 

when you add a few hundred pounds to an already overweight car, its a big deal!!!

 

agreed. 3400 lbs is M3 territory and atleast the m3 has 333hp to back it up

 

I agree with this as I've stated in a previous thread. I moved from a '05 base to a '06 track and in the '06 you can hear much less engine drone and overall I feel it is much quieter within the cabin.

Although some of this could be related to the 287bhp vs the 300bhp engine.

 

check their specifications the 06 has little difference in height and length... plus sound proofing of the 06 is better.

I bought it because its a simple sports car, 2 seats, loud, bumpy, that kind of stuff is whats sexy about the Z, oh and the body :P I went to look at the 06, I got to sit in and rev an 06 interlagos fire roadster with a nismo exhaust and nismo rims, it was really sexy, the door leather is really soft, inside is nice too, I think I cant tell where that weight came from, the creature comforts....the 06 is like having a smaller 2 seater G35 now, lol. Very nice car, but I dont care about that stuff, and there are some crazy ***** on here that REALLY dont care about that stuff, CF doors, stripped interior, no carpet, lol...

 

LOL yup like me. I had a full gutted trunk and no carpetting at all.

 

Interesting. I had a 05 enthusiast 6spd, and it killed me because my 130 mile commute each day was horrible in LA. I bought a 06 STI and thought, wow so much easier to live with and then recently I test drove a 06 enthusiast automatic and it felt like a luxury car! Sooo much quieter than the STI and sooo much smoother a ride. I think I have come full circle, I may actually trade in the STI and get a 06 350 Z auto!

 

Not really, you think 13 extra horses would help the car "haul ***" compared to an 03? Not to mention the torque on manuals went down. If anything its still the same car. It accelerates at the same speed as the 03's , or so i've read.

 

All the new little things will add up...specially the sound deadening material.

Anyone know how much the Steering assist weighs?
