Default Want to buy afermarket parts??? Think again!!

Not a single mod on my car has gon smoothly. I regret every mod I have made so far.

1. Turbonetics turbo: Car overboosts with aftermarket exhaust.

Fix; $1100 for adquate wastegate, and custom fabrication of a pipe that actually allows wastegate to operate properly. Calls/e-mails to me from TN about a soluton..... ZERO.

2. Aftermarket clutches: 3 to be exact.

1st clutch installed by Nissan. $1750. It lasted 38 days. No one knows why.

2nd clutch installed by local shop $2200. It lasted 5 minutes as the clutch was cracked due to improper install.

3rd clutch $3300. Had to buy a triple carbon clutch as this is what was available on short notice.

3. D2 Coilover Suspension $1700

Shocks for the 350Z are the incorrect legnth for the z not allowng you to lower the car from stock height. I have been waiting since June for the right coilovers. I actually had to send the MANUFACTURER D2 the correct measurments for the coilovers to send. 6 months later I have no height adjustaility in the fronts beyond 3/4 inch. Still waiting for parts. I was told numerous times they wil be here in 2 weeks. Whatever !! Avoid D2 at all costs.

Buy a Vette if you want to go fast. The aftermarket suppliers and most of the people who touch your car could care less about you or your car. Finding good installers being the biggest propblem. It's really not worth it.

JETPILOT, I am sorry to hear about your troubles. You've identified the simplest solution which is to buy as fast as a car as you want right out of the box. It always costs more to do this though (Porsche, Ferrari, etc.). In the end if you buy a less expensive car and then pay someone else to do the work, you're typically going to be in the neighborhood of the more expensive cars anyway.

The less expensive solution to speed requires that you pay for the labor with sweat equity and your own brainpower. I've always been a fan of doing my own mechanical work because no-one cares about my car more than I. It is satisfying however, when your much less expensive car can put the much more expensive cars to shame! This is cheapest with direct personal involvement in the process. I hope everything works out for you. Cheers, Rich

I think it might be more of a choice of manufacturers for your parts you should regret because many including myself have had many happy mods over the last 3+ years. Your bad experiences should not discourage others but maybe teach them something.

Still can't beat the feeling and satisfaction you get when you successfully mate the right aftermarket part to enhance the driving experience of a relatively humble car.

So what you are saying is that forced induction is expensive. 350Z owners with forced induction know that. Naturally aspirated drivers who say “I’m going FI soon” probably underestimate the cost by 100 percent.

It is a common problem if you do not install your parts which I don't anymore. Starting at power upgrade vs stop/handling upgrades along with the critical parts to handle said power can lead to addition expense. At the end of the day it is just a expense hobby either way you look at it. Unless money is never a object in your life, then it is just overhead.

The car looks great bro! We think a like when it comes to wings and body kits. You have a great car. I think a great deal of your pains could have been solved with a tad bit more research and patience. At least in the case of the turbo and clutches.

its just a bad story , but with alot of homework and a good tuner shop environment. I dont see why would you have so many problems, your suspension setup granted went bad aswell, but tien or other companies hardly have any issues with messing up orders with car compatiblity. I think you just have some serious bad karma. lol

You need to be really careful picking parts/companies when modding a car. There is something to be said for buying a super car from the factory, but modding is a hobby and a process in and of itself. No matter what i buy, i will probably mod it to some degree.

As I said, the key is in choosing mods that have the best chance of success, and in picking the right company. Researching is part of the process and should be part of the fun of the project.

Putting FI on an otherwise normally aspirated car is still a tricky proposition even if done "correctly". My previous car, an Audi S4 was twin turbo from the factory, so modding it for more power simply meant replacing the plumbing/fuel system with that from the RS4, then turning up the boost. Still, the basis for all the power upgrades on the Audi S4 were based on parts from the Audi RS4. It all worked beautifully.

There is no reason not to mod the Z, but only a handful of companies have it right. There is no reason not to go with Nismo for any of the particular mods they make. No company out there does it better for the Z. Modding for serious power upgrades, however, will always entail risk, and you drew the short straw. I did too. I had an FI system on my Z that I ended up removing due to multiple problems. I'm still happy with my Z. Honestly, the Z can't generate the proper traction to cope with anything over about 360-380 crank hp.

I have spent a ton of money on my car had some little problems on my T-Netics kit but nothing as bad as your.

I am glad I spent a few extra bucks on the R*SR instead of the TOPSPEED for my turbo.

Yeah, my Kaaz LSD after 7000 miles is now letting my axle play, and in turn, burned out my ABS sensor. The Kaaz will have to probably be rebuilt due to speed shop mistake, but I'm putting in a Nismo.
