when coming to a stop, what gear (in manual mode) are you in?

i get the thump/thud noise only when slowing down/stopping in 2nd. so if you slow down/stop in 3rd there will be no thump/thud and it'll automatically go to 1st.

the test pipes or exhaust doesn't cause this.
i had this happen to me when i first got the z and it was stock.

i just learned to slow/stop in 3rd to avoid this.

Mine doesn't do anything like that. I always down shift 3rd to 2nd when stopping, and the "auto" shift into first is smooth/ without noise or abrupt halting. Take it in to your Dealer to be checked.

+1 I don't notice any odd things happening in the tranny while it's in the manual mode.

While you're on the line ... does anyone else notice a grind in auto from 1st to 2nd on the very first shift of the day? I'm letting the car sit for 30 seconds or so warming up and I drive it gentle for the first four blocks. As I leave the drive and start forward gently there is a definite grind for half a second or so before hitting second.

no grinds or noises when accelerating or shift up. the noise i hear in in manual mode and only happens when i'm in 2nd and am slowing or stopping. a thud occurs when the car automatically shifts to 1st. and this happens all the time.

Yeah,I get that also. I think it has something to do with 1st gear no engaging quick enough when you downshift. Kind of like being in neutral for a split second and then the gear catches making the car suddenly slow down due to 1st gear engaging. Kind of feels like putting the car into drive after putting it in neutral while going over 65 or so. The only difference is that on the freeway to still want to keep moving but when downshifting to 1st your body is probably expecting to feel the car slow down. I think about this everyday when I drive.

I get it if the engine is cold. After everything warms up it's fine.

I also get a slight "grind" from 1st to 2nd when the engine is cold. And sometimes there's a prety bad lag from 1st to 2nd.
