For Those Warranty Experts (really need help)
OK I have searched the internet, called my dealer like 3 times and did not find the answer to my question. I am embarassed to post this here but I am praying that somone will have the answer to my questions.
4 days ago I bought a 2004 350z Enthusiast. It had 15k miles and on the sticker on the side of the car WARRANTY had a check mark next to it. I looked up all the info about warranty so i know how much time i will have it for etc. But here is my problem.
When i looed at the warranty booklet and Service bookelt I could not find any writing or any documentation that the previous owner did any maintenance to the car (yes i know i should have asked before I bought the car, but since it said it still had warranty I was not that curious yet)
After talking to the dealer who sold me it (wanst a Nissan dealer) He said before i picked up the car it went throught a and i quote " full service is done to the car including an oil change"
I just want to know what can I do to check when the car had its service done, what was done to it previously. Also this is the 1st used car i purchased with warranty. How do i get this warranty transfered to my name? Is there a period of time when i should do this? I really dont want to go to a Nissan dealer and then find out I have no warranty or its VOID.
Thanks everyone. I am hoping you can answer my questions and help me by telling me what I should do.

At 15K miles the ony service that was probably don ewould be a couple oil changes. The car still has the Nissan 3/36000 mile warenty. This would only have been void if the car has some major aftermarket mods done to it, or some kind of flood damage.
ok thats good. well im at 15.1k now and i read on the nissan website there is a major 15k maintenance
I just need to know how or if i have to transfer this warranty onto my name?

The Dealer will have all its records IF it was serviced there... I'm pretty sure they keep that in their database.
If the warranty wasnt changed in your name at the sale, then all you have to do is ask a customer service rep at any Nissan Dealership to change that into your name.
Here's what I'd do....
1)Go to dealer, ensure that the warranty is in your name. at the same time, talk to a service rep about that "stickker"" and its effects on your warranty.
(KEEP YOUR MOUTH SHUT ABOUT THE MILLAGE!!!!)
2)If they tell you that to ensure the validity of the warranty, you need to change the oil every 5000kms, then you've got two options.....
1))Get your local friendly mechanic to rite you a few invoices for oil changes... (Those that supposidly missed)
2))Be honnest, and accept the fact that the warranty (PowerTrain I believe) is ""kaput""
If its the latter, then go to the Dealership, demanding an explanation as to ""why"" you were told that the first oil change you needed to go was at 5000kms and not 15,000kms like you were told, when you first got it.
Good-luck

what does that mean? I have no powertrain warranty?
Also, so there is nothing i need to fill out to get the warranty transfered from the previous owner to me? He bought the car in Florida and i bought it from NJ

check with nissan usa... usually they will require you to have a dealer inspect the vehicle thoroughly and certify that no damage was done/or vehicle appears to be maintained properly...
they can then consider that as proper maintenance and transfer warranty to you...
this is routine for extended warranties, so I'm not sure how it works with the normal new car warranty
