350z too powerfull for newbie?
18, but the Z was the power I needed! First car was an Eclipse spyder, sloooow. So I sold it went bicycle riding and working for my father for a year, down payment on a Z
. Sorry for off-topic, but sometimes I just have to look out the window and take a stare, to reassure myself it is true. Back to topic, dealers will tell you anything to make their cars look superior. If I had to sell an RSX to a kid looking to buy a 350Z, I would tell him anything to buy my car.

It goes without saying that one should not get the most powerful of anything as the first anything. If this question was about a first bike, no one would tell you to get the 1100. That said, the Z isn't the most powerul car made. It's probably a better 2nd or third car though, and although someone said that they never had any accidents, the insurace for young drivers isn't ridiculously high because that group is so careful.
Any type of sportbike experience and i think its a little hard to fear any type of cage. Bikes are nuts. Here, check out a video of how nuts i was on my bike just a few years ago....

The Z may be a bit powerful for younger drivers, but I think it is actually a very safe ride all around. You have to be more careful in wet conditions, but the TCS and VDC do work very well to keep the car in check. These features became very apparent to me during this winter, as ive been driving my Z in all weather types. Dry grip is great IMO, but sometimes you have to get a reality check when you flick off the TCS/VDC and try to be a hero in the corners

It all depends on you, the driver. If you're real careful in the rain/snow and use half your brain the rest of the time , you should be fine. By this I mean you should slowly get acquainted to the Z's capabilities and limits and not floor it into a corner the first day you get your Z.
man. before i had my Z i had a 92 prelude with 165 hp. I'm 22 now and I went I took it for a test drive I didn't feel it had too much power for me to handle. I felt one with the car. So it really just depends on your driving abilitiy. But if you live in an area where it snow's the Z wouldn't be a good choice for a guy unless you have experience driving in the snow with a rear wheel drive car. So don't think of it as is it too much power , but think about what kind of conditions you'll be using the Z for. Other than that, you should be fine just don't do any street racing and never ever drive while your high, rolling, or drinking because you'll just give yourself more opportunity why you shouldn't have one. -john

less than 300 hp at the crank is dangerous? A stock Z can barely chirp the tires in 2nd gear? What a joke! Maybe your friend would be better off in a 73 station wagon, of maybe the sales man is just full of sh*t
yea... its way too much power, im 17 turning 18 next week. the car scares the hell out of me everytime i have to drive it,the first day i got it. i wanted to see how fast it really was, that was the worst mistake ever. luckily i ended up with a messed up rim n 2 broken side skirts n a lost front bumper... on the real though i say just be extra careful n dont do stupid things n ull be fine..
You will love the car when you get it just don abuse like i did. I remember the day i got my Z and the day i lost it. I wish i could turn back time and never take the z out that night. Just take care of the z its not to powerful if you don abuse its power.

Keep 3 things in mind when you drive the Z and you'll be fine:
1. No one cares if you beat the other car.
2. Your car cannot violate the laws of physics.
3. You are not as good a driver as you think you are.
If followed, those three guidelines prevent most of the problems one might encounter when driving a Z.
