Haha, the wheelies and stoppies aren't things I haven't seen in other videos, but one of you guys humping on your bike while riding was a new one. Just imagine seeing that on the freeway...

Oh yeah, and on topic, this question doesn't have anything to do with what car it is. You can drive any car like an idiot, but as long as you know you are responsible enough to drive a car with this kind of power at a young age, you should be fine. Don't be tempted to push the limits of the car until you are completely sure of what you're doing, and don't try to be and remember: You are not Michael Schumacher. As I'm sure many people here will tell you, if you really want to push the limits, take it to the track. Don't put everyone else's lives on the line by messing around in the streets.

 

It all depends on experience and the driver. I'm going to be 17 soon and have a lightly modded Z and still have plenty to do. I have never been in a crash or pushed my car close to one (knock on wood). I learned to drive a stick when I was 13 and have experience driving modded Mustangs and Z06's. It's all about responsibility and knowing to not drive like a jackass. I think we all do a little spirited driving in our Z's but you gotta be smart about it and know the roads, and make sure no one is around. As far as daily driving goes just be smart and drive it like any other car on the road. That's just my 2 cents...

 

IMO........ either the Z's stock hp is barely adequate or the Z is 1000 lb. too heavy.

I don't know about all that, I have never had a rwd b4 my Z but I will say there was a learning curve to a car with so much power and RWD but if you want it get it. Just respect what it can do, I added a ton of mods B4 I was comfortable turning off the traction control and letting it loose I will say that. I am 22 by the way. JUMPIN OUT THE TREEEEEFITY!

 

The power of the 350z is what keeps me out of accidents. In this car you are nimble and can quickly adapt to change before the rest of the traffic *turtles* can even react. Power/handling is a good thing... and this car has them in just the right proportions.

 

when i was 18 i drove a 01 vette. i'd get on the freeway at 100mph, cruise at 130. once i pushed it pretty hard over 160 on a major LA freeway. its allright, i didn't kill myself. Not a single accident (except trucks would back up into me, cause the car was so low). 1 ticket total out of 5 years driving it. So i would say 350hp 360 torque is about where you wanna be as a kid. If you drive a sports car later in life, it'll just look like a midlife crisis mobile. You wanna switch to more mature cars as you get older. So get the 350z while you're still young.

I think the most dangerous thing at your age (and yes, I remember what it was like to be your age--whatever it is, i'm pretty certain you're not as old as me) is gonna be your friends eggin you on to race the damn thing in the street. Hell, my friends tell me that now. The difference is, since i'm old, I don't care. I don't get bothered by the peer pressure and I do whatever I want to do

 

I sold a Honda Accord to get my Z. First time I turned the traction control off and stomped the gas I did a complete 360. Man did I feel like a old fool. I respect er now!

Yeah, I actually think the Z would be safer assuming it has a level headed driver. That's because it is more responsive than the average car and therefore helps you avoid accidents!

 

Im 24 and had my Z since new in Jan. 2003. No accidents, just a ticket or two. (But not since the full K-40 radar/laser defense system. hehe) Anyway, there is no such thing as someone too young for a car. But just like any car, it must be respected. No matter what you drive, if you dont know the cars capabilities and yours then there is going to be a problem. Its never the car, its the driver. The car is a "sports car" and needs to be treated like one. Rear whell drive is what the driver needs to get used to. Any car with rear wheel drive can pose a probelm for inexperienced drivers. Know the car and its limits before pushing it. Also, the limits of the car are directly associated with the capabilities of the driver behind the wheel. Inexperienced driver=keep the nice cars in the garage until you get a little more experience. I would NOT recommend ANY sports car for a rookie driver. Inexperienced drivers lack the vision, knowledge, and feel of a vehicle and others around them. If you must get a sports car as a rookie driver, I would recommend attending a performance/ defensive driving school as well. Not only is it kinda fun but they teach you many things any driver can use, as well as improve your skills as a driver in general.

 

People don't think teen are into street racing, statistics, studies and insurance rates show that is a fact. However, as Brickyard Rat said, it's about self control. Ask yourself a few honest questions about your driving such as: Do you race in your current car? If someone pulls up next to you at a light and starts revving, can you resist? Do you have road rage? If you can answer no to questions like this, take the money you were going to spend on those first mods and spend on a good speed driving class.

 

haha im selling my accord sedan for a 350z to..ok any ways....what does the traction control really do? im still sort of confused..and when u turn it off...

 

I think the problem is one of self control. I drive like an old lady in my winter car, but when I get into my Z I grow horns It takes a lot of self control to let a car tailgate and then pass you by in a Z. If you are a competetive person then maybe you should stick with the Accord for a while. You can customize the handling of the Accord and find some deserted twisties to do some exciting but low speed driving. When you have:

1) Hit your helmet on the pavement.
2) Entered a decreasing radius turn on a motorcycle and cant get off the bike.
3) Broken loose on a curve in a car.
4) Spun out in the snow or ice.
5) Hydroplaned in the rain.
6) Panic braked and steered around an obstacle.
7) Punched the throttle and broke loose sideways.

Then you are ready for a Z, cause you will understand what can happen.

Uh oh! This kid is gonna get a rear wheel drive sports car and doesnt even know what the traction control is? Are you serious? May we all have a moment of silence for those innocent drivers on the road in San Diego who have no idea what is about to happen to them and not to mention the poor car. :O(

 

Just respect the car and drive it normally. Take it to a track to figure out how it handles when driving aggressively. Then you'll know when it's dangerous depending on your actions with the car, and you'll know what is what isn't going to fly on the street.

 

for a car that weighs 1450kgs.. 280hp is on pretty safe side.

Even a 60hp ff can be dangerous enough to kill anybody, newbie trying to push any car = dangerous.

When should you turn it off? Never. I know some guys on here do to "slide" etc. If your buying the Z to slide around then you should not get one.

I've put 29,000 miles on my Z, drive aggressively on back roads with no traffic, and have never had the TCS/VDC come on.

There are a FEW drivers who can go slip sliding around with great skill but most are amateurs who have no biz doing it. Believe me, as a rookie, you will be in the latter category.

We have seen numerous posts from folks who have wrapped their Z around trees, etc or whose relatives have reported their death from being stupid.
