Default crankshaft sensor

Wanted to see if anyone else is having this problem. I have a 2005 base and
have had the crankshaft sensor changed out twice (The car went into fail safe mode both times). Yesturday, I was on the Interstate doing around 80 and the car jumped into fail safe mode again. I don't have any engine mods, the only thing I have done to the car is upgrade the stereo with new speakers and an amp. Any ideas???

man nissan makes some really bad Crank position sensors. If the car doesn't recive a RPM signal it wont function correctly and will shut off or use another sensor to get information from. Really sucks thought .. This was a common problem on sentra's too.

I had the same problem with my '03 Z. the car would cut out between 3000-4500 rpms. and the check engine light would go on. I got mine replaced under a recall. I had no idea the '05s had the same problem

Exclamation Crankshaft Position Sensor

This past Friday while traveling at 60MPH my engine shutdown. Fortunately I was able to coast to the side of the road. My Z won't restart immediately. After about 2 minutes I got it to start but the "Service Engine Light" was on. Proceeded about another mile and the engine cutoff again. After restart, "Service Engine ASAP" "VDC" and "SLIP" lights were on.

Took it to the local Nissan dealer who diagnosed a malfunctioning Crankshaft Position Sensor. Part was underwarranty (2005 Z) so no charge.
