Default 2003 Replacement Tranny help

I just got my 2003 nissan back from the dealer today after them replacing "under warranty" the tranny, clutch and pedal assembly.

My question is this:

Why does the clutch feel totally different, it is not as sturdy and almost feels like air. The clutch before I had the replacement, was alot harder to push down etc. Any suggestions about finding out what type of clutch or tranny it was replaced with.

Also what is the break in period for a new tranny, clutch etc.

Sorry if this has been repeated.

John

what does having test pipes have anything to do with your transmission? thats like saying they voided your warranty cause you got a nismo shift ****. wait, thats actually a better reason then your test pipes, since it actually has something to do with your transmission.

Hey man im in the Kansas City, Mo area too. I took my car in for a transmission change and I had my test pipes on. They dont care as long as it doesnt affect the associated system. example..if your o2 sensor failed and needed to be replaced under warranty they would no longer warranty that because you deleted the cats. Its a chance you take when you modify your car.
And to get back on subject about the transmission, my clutch felt all mushy like a civic when I got my car back. They changed the transmission, clutch, and new throw out bearing. After driving it for awhile it went back to normal though. Take it easy on your car for the first 500 miles on the new clutch. The only problems sometime with my new tranny is getting the shifter into 5th gear sometimes. Gears feel stiffer in 5th and 6th gear. But hey at least it doesnt grind 3rd gear anymore. Crap was annoying

There are 2 clutches for the 350Z... One of them is an 1000kg pressure plate, the other is an 800... (I may be wrong on the numbers but its around that)...

The 2003-2004.5 have the higher pressure plate... 2005 and up use the other pressure plate with less clamping force...

If they replaced the clutch or you purchased a clutch, it is most likely the new style pressure plate since the old number now tells you to sell the newer plate...

Left is the new style found in 2005-2006 / Right is the older style...

^^Good to know, thanks for posting. My 03' clutch was a beast, 53K miles of abuse and never slipped 1X.

Don't get me started on the damn tranny problem, I have a 03' touring and within a month of driving it, the grinding started in 2nd to 3rd and 4th to 5th. I took it to a dealership near my work and they completely screwed me. I then reported the problem to Nissan consumers and they sceduled me with another dealer. They were completely different, very nice and attentive, maybe because the problem was reported to consumers and they were scared, but they cleaned the rear axels and the problem was solved. It drives great and doesn't grind anymore. I'm kind of glad they didn't replace the tranny, because it might turn out to be a worser one. But I found out that the warrenty on the clutch goes to 30K, so I'm working on getting me a new one.....

I was wrong!

up to 2004.5 uses a 750kg clutch cover

for 2005-UP uses a 1010kg clutch cover

but the spring shape is different... so I think the spring shape may do it...

Default Thanks For All The Great Help And Knowledge

Thanks guys for all your great help, the car drives great now, don't get me wrong, was just curious about the different feel and if it was normal. I'm not to educated on the internals of the car, I know how to do basic work and thats it.

Thanks again,
Great Site
