Z lap times at Nurburing
We were discussing an Acura NSX to a Nissan 350Z lap time. Now you want to compare a Honda NSX-R to a Nissan 350Z lap time? If you want to be fair, then take 400 pounds off the 350Z because that's one of the difference between the Acura NSX and the Honda NSX-R, 400 pounds weight reduction.

In Europe, the 35th 350Z was developped on the Nurburgring, and is 2 seconds a lap faster than the normal 287hp track version.

The JP NSX-R kicks the US NSX's azz.

Any JP car model kicks the US car model!
Some people call it emissions control?

LOL, sorry, it's 350 pounds lighter, not 400 pounds.

. I was trying to compare the weight of the Honda NSX and the Honda NSX-R, instead of the Acura NSX and the Honda NSX-R. I just wanted to know if the Honda is lighter then the Acura.
Honda NSX is still a Honda NSX in Japan....no Acura.
As far as the difference between the NSX and NSX-R the weight difference is a BIG part but there are other things that make the R perform alot better.
-bigger tires, brakes
-Final gear ratio is lower
-gas pedal response, torque is more linear for precision control.
-beefier stabilizer bars, struts, springs
-stiffer all around
-And of course, the bucket seats harness the driver's ****.

Well, if you want to read about someone's experience in a 350Z from Grand Turismo 4 to the real thing, there is a cool article I just found here:

Here's some pictures of me at the ring, btw - appart from the general layout, the game cannot begin to let you experience what is like in terms of gradients, g-force, bumps, traffic (cars, bikes, buses, police), accidents (the people who are over confident) etc.

Hurly in an X5 with a V12, that must have been a wild ride.
So I am supposed to believe a stock 350z will beat a GTR around the 'ring? Some of these times are highly questionable.. as in maybe some drivers wern't so great?
In every comparison I've ever seen where they had S2ks go around a road course vs the Z, the S2k had no problem owning it. In fact even against the RX8 in the comparison I remember the road course times were nearly identical.
As a Z owner, these numbers are very surprising. I don't think a Z will outhandle out accelerate out anything against an NSX.
Considering a TYPE R NSX will run high 12s bone stock and has an incredible suspension.. basically the way the car should have been sold here.
Oh well, numbers are numbers.

The Nordschleife (north loop) is a great track, much different than GT4, or any game I have played. Here are few pics that my friend and I took from the passenger seat of the rental we thrashed on the track (bmw 528)

I really don't think that those aftermarket spring mfgrs really know what effect stiffer and little bit lower will do to a Z. The 'Ring is full of bumps and other types of uneven surfaces, so one of the keys to running fast lap times is to have suspension that really works. On smooth pavement, the stiffer the better, but that only means you're making your tires work harder because your suspension isn't doing anything for handling.

Also the 350z thats running this track might be setup with Nismo equipment which might explain why it got the times that it did <shrug>

Momentum will get you around fast. We were passing 911s and older Ferraris with a rental BMW 320i. Knowledge of the track does help.
Trainning on a video game is a must for anyone who want's to enjoy his first day at that track (as opposed to be scared all the time).
