Default Storage Begind Drivers Seat?

Ok... so I know that the models that some with the Bose Sound System have a sub behind the drivers seat.

I looked at some other thread where people stripped their cars and noticed that there is actually almost the same amount of room tehre as behind the passanger seat.

My question is... Is there a way to convert that place to a storage area? Or is it possible (and a good idea) to add an aftermarket subwoofer back there?

That's cool. But I hardly use my passenger side now.

I did put an aftermarket subwoofer in the space. It was easy for the stero installer to do.

You will need the gril. Order here:

I bought the bose subwoofer cover and used the open area behind the driver seat for my stereo amp. Did not want it out in the open to get stolen. The sub cover gives plenty of ventilation.

QUOTE]

i made a good sized cubby there - pulled the subwoofer bracket (anyone need a spare?) and got some cheap carpet and a plastic handle from lowes

store my helmet and magnetic numbers and spare jacket etc in it - has about double the room as the passenger side

great idea, id like to take the two ideas here and modify that to:

getting JUST the glovebox outer door and latch assembly (Much cheaper too)

and completing the inside with the carpet.. much more usable room

?yeah my dealer parts man looked it up and you can't buy just the door.
Nissan makes you buy the whole panel with the right door for $230!
A Lowes handle was $10.
I spent the $220 on a box of sound matting.

I don't understand. Is this an installation for Z's without bose? Because I have a sub behind my driver's seat. Does that mean I'll have to remove it?

This is what I was planning to do. Good to hear that you gained plenty of ventilation for your amp.

Yes. When you throw away that anemic ~2" tall bloze sub you won't
shed any tears. Because next is a system upgrade to a 7" sub!

I like that... But i dont see the handle... i was messing around with the thing today trying to figure out how to open it without prying it open with a screwdriver.

I think you can use some kind of fabric and some type of "super glue" and glue it from the back... and make the piece of fabric stick out from the top. When you need to open it just pull the tab thingy and it will pop right open.

Kind of cool knowing you can have a "secret" compartment in your car. Its only a secret to non 350z owners/ enthusiasts tho =P

i just leave the inner upper corner unfastened for now but im gonna keep looking for the actual pass side cover..

OR mabey attach a small cloth "pull tab" from the back that can stick out the top

When I got my Z I was baffled why there was storage space on the passenger side and not the drivers side, considering I don't have the bose system. Seems like nissan could have spent the extra $2 to put the wasted space to good use.

No need once you take the top clips off you just replace them with velcro strips as you see in the picture. The panel will come right off. No need for handle. It also is stealthy without a handle as well. If you wanted you you could dremel out a place to put a plastic filing cabinet handle but I think it looks much better without a handle at all. I would say try it first like I did. I think you will find that it is not necessary.
