Holding the VDC switch down???
Newbie to the Z here, but not driving
. I did a search and didn't find my answer...so anyways. If you press the VDC button the VDC off light comes on. And today talking with a M3 owners, and their traction control device, that if they hold it down for 8 sec it completely disables the system. So i tried it with the VDC. I held it down for like 10 seconds while i was sitting still and the VDC off light went out. And if i pressed the button again nothing happened no light at all regardless if i pressed it again. It was as if i turned the whole system off. I didn't try to burn out because i was on a military base. But what happend tho? Once i turned the car off and back on it was back to normal with normal off and on functions. Could that be an easier way then pulling out fuses? Anyone have a burnout spot they could go to and try the difference?
Oh and while i have you here
is it normal to feel vibration in the stick shift. I came from fwd, but i noticed above 4k the and wot the shifter has a nice vibration to it. I assume its normal because its RWD and the tranny is right under it, but just checking.

I've never heard of it that way but I have read people joking about holding it down. I tried to chase down the rumor myself but couldn't find anything.
+1 for normal vibration on shifter. I like it, makes me feel more in tune with the car.

This is one of those great 350Z myths that has bee around for a long time, changes stories occasionally, etc.
It started just as you described: you hold it down, the light goes out and the system is apparently completely disabled until you restart the car. Disabled in that even if you hit the button and get the VDC Off light, the system will still intervene at the limits. To complicate matters, it apparently makes a difference as to what year the car is. Alot of '03 owners say that when they hit the button, it's OFF, while later years say that it still intervenes. What's the truth? I don't think anyone really knows for sure. The only way to tell on your car it to test it at the limits and see for yourself.

I tried that, the light went off, I couldn't turn it on anymore, and when I tried burning out, the SLIP light flashed and I could hear the ABS working. I didn't try to burn out too hard because I did this in front of my house, but I think holding the button doesn't completely disables VDC/TCS. I have an 05 touring.
If there's a way to fully disable without affecting ABS, I want to know.

no you do not hold the button down...
i cant say how to do it... but I will give a hint... it was posted before in a thread I was writing in and I had someone else write how... I cant say exactly because of liability reasons...
The center console needs to be removed...
there is a box between the shifter and where the coin box would be...
pull out the plug...

You would all be surprised at how many buttons have secret functions when you hold it for a few seconds. I could tell you some but better you find out for yourselves. And I'm not just talking about the Z, but the whole world in general.
