Question Problem Please Help!!

My 2005 350z has broken down two times in the last week and the dealer can not figure out what the problem is. The car just seems to shut down while running, like the car is going into fail safe mode. I had the crank shaft sensor go out twice already and it does the same thing. The car jerks, the RPM's jump and the car dies. It did not set off the CEL, so there is no code. The car will not start initially after the car kills, but if I turn it off and let it sit for about five minutes it starts right up with no problem. The dealer checked the sensor this time and stated that it is not the problem. I don't have any aftermarket parts under the hood. The dealer is now leaning to my aftermarket stereo which includes a stereo, EQ, one amp for the front components a basslink behind the driver seat and a Viper alarm. All of the stereo equipment is getting its power from the battery except I do have a small line driver spliced into the cig lighter in the back. I also have my radar detector wired into the front mirror. Anyone have any suggestions to what could be causing the problem. I just don't believe the stereo is the problem.

There are some people who had their cars shutdown....but I believe that is because they had an AEM intake, specifically the popcharger. Do you have have any mods such as an intake?

"... five minutes it starts right up ...", sounds like heat related. It's not likely the stereo or detector is causing the problem. Assuming your car is still under warranty, you should eliminate the stuff in question by disconnecting the detector, pull the fuse from the cig lighter and the stereo and take it back to the dealer and let them figure it out.

Default Problem Please Help!!

Hello, fellow z owner here. A similar problem has happened to my Z and like in your situation the service department could'nt figure it out. I would like to know the outcome of your particular situation and what the service peeps did to fix it. Any help would be deeply appreciated. Thanks.

here's what you do: buy two 5 gallon gas cans, fill them up, and put them in your trunk. then drive your Z through the dealership's front window, get out of your car, dump gas all over the showroom and your own vehicle, and burn that ***** down!!! I hear that it worked for one guy in orlando last week.

Yeah, I was thinking that too. It should be easy enough for them to reflash that turkey.

Good luck .... let us know.

I agree with OHW, iliminate your stereo and see if it still happens. If it does than you can sure tell Nissian they are full of it.

Tigga09,

They kept my car for three weeks and could not get it to replicate the problem and they said they could find nothing wrong with it, so I picked it back up. I have been driving it for two weeks now and it has been driving fine. I believe the car has a problem with the ECU or the crank position sensor was not tight causing the problem????? Who knows. If it happens again I will just take to another dealer. I love my Z, but it has been unreliable. I will never buy another Nissan again. My car has left me stranded five times in one year and the service is horrible.
