Is your Z a parking lot magnet?
hmmm...
it seems like no matter where you park, someone will park next to you... so why bother...
just park where there is an empty parking lot..
and it is nice to own something new and nice, but don't let it own you... remember that you own it!
and yes.. it is an "IT"...

Right...dings and scratches are gonna happen. If you don't want that to happen, don't drive your Z.
I'm more worried about getting my Z parked okay in the garage - with 2 cars, it's a tight fit. Takes me 5 minutes until I'm satisfied I've got it close enough to "my side" but without hitting anything. =/

My Z is in my garage until the spring thaw. I'm having some remodeling work done at my home. I come home 3 days in a row to find the builders all out in the garage gawking at the car. Thank God the car doors were locked.
They want to know what size tires it has, I want to know why the bathroom wall isn't fixed yet. Construction project is behind schedule. Got a car cover from Courtesy Nissan and put it on today.

Most of us have stories like the ones here. I always park away from people, and when I come back to my car there are always people parked next to me. If there are 30 empty spots around me, I will take up two spots, but only if I know there is no way there is going to be a shortage of parking while I am in the store. The car is a freaking magnet. I always catch my self muttering obcenities when I notice the cars around me, but always feel a little guilty when there are no dings. Now, if there ever was a ding...lets not go there, I am already getting a little hot under the collar.

My first new car was a Datsun 240Z. Drove it off the show room floor in 1973. Kept it for 15 years. I likely walked several thousand miles to and from that car over that 15-year period. Always parked it as far from other cars as I could. Over the time that I owned it, I only had 3 significant mishaps. All of them were related to parking.
The first was when I parked out front of a Good Year Store to buy new wheels for my Z. Parking was limited, but I managed to find a end space in front of the store. So I parked as close to the curb as possible leaving as much room as I could to the adjacent parking space. I had been in the store for less than a minute, looking out the glass storefront checking on my car about every ten seconds. What pulls up but a big four door something (all American four door cars were big back in the 70's) with the Adams family aboard. A kid in the back seat threw the back door open, bamm against my Z. First ding, but not the last.
The second mishap occurred in a grocery store parking lot. Yes, I can see you know what is coming. I parked it way across the lot where there were no other cars. Yes, it was on the down hill side and windy as hell that day. Bammmm, I grocery cart can build up a lot of speed on an open down hill parking lot.
Last but definitely not least, at the time of this mishap I was going to college. As particular as I was about my Z, I would parallel park it, if I could, to keep doors from opening on it. I had a favorite space right in front of my art classroom building. This particular day, classes were light and the student parking lot was all but empty. I was parallel parked in my favorite space. A 79 year-old women in a big four door Ford Galaxy, decided that she was going to practice her parallel parking. Well, she ended up parking on my hood. Totaled my hood and front bumper, wrinkled both front fenders. There was a large student parking lot not thirty feet away that was empty of cars, you figure? I was not a happy camper that day.
Oops, I just remembered a fourth mishap, but that’s another story.
