tunning experts... some questions
i have some questions to tunning experts.
I just start tunning my car.
I am gonna add a rear spoiler onto my z.
i know carbon fiber is lighter than fiberglass.
But Is carbon fiber wing is stronger than fiberglass???
When u paint the carbon fiber, do u need to sand and paint?
or u never sand carbon fiber???
Is any one has answer for this??
if u know plz let me know...
Thankz guyz!

first of all, "TUNING" refers to making changes in the car's ecu to allow maximum power output.
I think you are just focusing on the exterior appearance right now, so...
yes carbon fiber is lighter than fiberglass. But our cars are made up of mostly aluminum and urethane, which is pretty light weight already. If you really want to lighten it, you have to understand that there are 2 types of carbon fiber - Wet, and Dry. They go through different manufacturing processes that I won't go in detail here, but you can find them easily using the search function. Wet carbon is about the same weight as aluminum, so you wouldn't really be saving too much weight. Dry, on the other hand, saves quite a bit of weight, and it costs quite a few pennies more.
Yes you can't paint cf. A lot of people on this board has already done that. I'm not too sure about the sanding process, but I'm sure you can sand the clearcoat down to paint it. I just leave my CF raw.

when you sand CF little cf hairs will stick up and it must be sprayed with bulldog or another kind of spray that will keep the hairs down so they wont rise and crack the paint. <- i was told by a painter friend.. and CF for our cars is usually a overlay of fiberglass so no weight saving at all if any

anything from seibon/VIS etc will be fiberglass overlayed with CF print...
if you want safety go dry carbon
if yo want weight saving... go dry carbon or stay stock
and i think aero parts tuning is a part of tuning too...
