Default Having problem getting traction down to the rear wheels

The title explains it. It's been going on for a few weeks now.
My Z's having problem getting traction down to the rear wheels in 1st gear.
If I get on the gas a bit in 1st gear, my rear wheels slip frequently.
The thing that's more weird is that the rear wheels are still losing traction
even at low rpms like 1K to 3K.
It's like the RPM is moving up faster than the car is accelerating.
This happens when the tires are both cold(obviously possible) or hot.
Sometimes even 2nd gear has a bit of problem.

My clutch is NOT slipping. The clutch is TOTALLY fine.
My tires have PLENTY of thread left. They're only seven months old.

Two possibilities I thought of:

1. My diff is toasted.
2. Time to upgrade to bigger, fatter wheels for more traction.

Fill me in on this guys

My tire pressure is 31psi when cold, and 36psi when hot.

I don't have a lead foot at all..even if I did it never happened
when I was pushing the car real hard before.

Only mods I have are Pop charger, Nismo exhaust, and 5/16 Plenum spacer.
I do not think the power gains from those bolt ons are significant enough
at all to make my stock tires lose traction all of sudden.
It never has, and now it's doing it. Pretty frustrating.

I've been having the same traction problem for a few weeks now too. I think since the past two weeks. Just yesterday, I was in 2nd @ 4k rpm and steped on the gas about 3/4 and felt the back sliding a bit -- I was going straint, not turning. And last week, did the same thing in second gear a few times also by gunning it while going straight. In both instances, I had a full tank of gas weighing down the rear. Maybe it's the polution in the air that was washed down by rain....or the cold air recently.

Has it been cooler in SoCal lately? BTW, its always time for better tires for the Z. The moment you drive it off the lot, your first stop should be a reputable tire dealer.

Isn't 31 psi a bit low? My manual says 35 psi...

Have 2 friends check the rear wheels when you take off to see if one or both wheels spin.

+1. You likely purchased the base model with doesn't come with an LSD...so you're just spinning one tire. Sounds like it's time to upgrade.

No, mine's enthusiast which has TCS and LSD.
My tires are stock Potenza's.
I made a mistake on my tire pressure readings..it's up to factory spec.
It has indeed been colder than usual here in CA..maybe that could be the problem.

The stock potenzas are a summer performance tire. In cold weather they don't get as much traction, which is most likely your problem.

Question

Traction is important, but more important is 60-foot times. What times are you running?

The stock tires aren't very good when they are cold. It's probably been raining also which doesn't help.

Cooler asphalt can make a HUGE difference with tire spin - alco with TCS on, that should take care of the problem, unless you drive with TCS off.

probably the cooler asphalt? I know in the summer theres a bit more traction, since the ground gets much hotter.

Yeah, stock tires on these Z are terrible for traction. They don't wear very well either. In the summertime they have nice stiff sidewalls that help out around the corners. But, when it's 50 degrees in California these tire will spin and the car will get squirrely. It can be fun if you like to hang out the tail every once in a while. Just becareful when you hit the gas around a corner. Because if you don't correct fast enough you'll find yourself going around and around and maybe off the road.
