Default Lifting Car....

This is for those who work on their cars...

Today i tried to remove a part from my front bumper and could not find a screwdriver that fits perpendicular to the undebody. So i decided I would need something to raise the car

Now i read about ramps and about jack stands.

Rhino ramps are like what..... 30 bucks for a pair. The problem is you cant get 2 for the back cuase the car is so damn low (and i love thats its low but its a pain to do anything).

So what would you guys reccomend? 2 rhino ramps + 2 jackstands? or just 4 jackstands?

I saw a set of 2 jackstands, 1: 2 ton jack, and a board to get under the car with (forgot the name of this device) at PepBoys for like 30bucks after mail-in-rebates. Somone told me to get Craftsman but 2 stands are like 100 bucks lol

Edit: Here is the item

I just took mine off too paint without any jacks or ramps. Theres a few below the bumper, 10m bolts holding onto the splash guards. On the sides below the wheel wells. Just look thoroughly at each point of the bumper, you'll find all the bolts and nuts

Get ramps. Much easier and you don't need to lift the whole car, just one end at a time for pretty much anything you want to do.

as long as you don't have a lip or body kit. if so then rhino ramps aren't low enough. you'd have to get a low pro jack to lift the car and then lower it onto the ramps/blocks/stands.

Ramps or a floor jack and stands. If you need to work on one end, drive it up the ramps. If you need the whole car off the ground, you can drive one end up and jack the other one and use stands. If you need all fours wheels off, then jack each end and put them on stands.

I like jack stands. No particular reason I just always get this feeling I'm going to drive too far and drop off the other end.

you need four jack stands and one 1 1/2 ton low profile aluminum floor jack...jack up the rear end at the rear axle housing and use the two jack stands to raise the rear. Now remove the floor jack from the rear axle and jack up one side at a time to raise the front end. Follow your owners manual for jack locations for the front.

Actually, there is a central front floor jack point as well (shown in the manual), so you don't have to do one side at a time for the front. You just have to watch things very carefully when raising the entire car b/c the car will be pivoting on the jack stands as the other end is lifted and may shift on them if not properly placed.

If you get ramps for the front tires, I recommend ramps with extensions. The front of the car is low.

Get some old plywood. Stack it in a step pattern, and pull up on it and stop. You will now be able to fit your jack under the car. My car has a HAIR over 2 inch clearance and I am able to get it up on jacks no problems with this method.

I'd recommend getting some 2x8's or some 2x10s as it is a bit easier to stop on.

I made long ramps out of plywood and 4x4s. I made cuts in the 4x4s to get about a 2' run over the 4" rise. Then I laid 2 of these 4x4s side-by side to form a 4x8 for each ramp.
