look im 19 and "I" bought my Z when i was 18 i work very very hard for my stuff....my first car was a 95 del sol Vtec......my dad bought it for me it was a lil sports car not that fast nothing too wild not that expensive but then it did have a B16 and me interested in cars of coarse i started to modify it.
and i loved it but yes i was a stupid driver and the first 2 months i had my car i had 2 tickets already 1 street racing ticket and other lil dumb ones but i know how it is to have something you want just make sure you dont take it for granted and go do something stupid.........be careful. and get a job to help with the payments or buy something for it........lol ....damn i would love to have money....lol

 

Your very lucky, I wish that happend to me... I'm currently 16, I've been wanting a Z since i was in 8th grade(what 4 years ago?), and my mom and dad promised to buy me it for my 18th birthday. I'm also a good student, mainly above 4.0 gpa most of the time, athelete, and other activites. Too bad i have to wait .

Well personally, i would also go with MT as most of the people on the forums would say. I have had experience with a MT car and it feels great. GO MT!~

LOL i can completely relate!, back when i got my first 350, i had never had a RWD before.. i took a corner to fast in the rain.

half way through i lost the back end and spun 180 deg. heading toward 2 cars!!!
luckily i had just enought steering control to guide the spin right between them facing the opposite direction i came. stopped short of the curb about 2"

to any onlookers james bond couldnt have done a more spectacular parking job.

to me.. i was freaked!! just plain lucky!! i learned my lesson!!

 

lol all of this reminds me of when I got my first car. It was a Celica GT FWD really fun car to drive. Any ways I think I was about your age, 2 weeks after I got the car I crashed it felt horrible. Paid my parents back for the accident costs and every thing. So now that I have been driving the Z around for a while I have been very carefull not to repeat the same thing. Just be VERY careful RWD 3.5L V6 is no joke. BTW MT is the only way to go !

Can't believe I'm about to "sort of" condone this...

My first car was not a brand new Z, but it was a Z. I was a mature kid, made good grades and mostly stayed out of trouble. My parents weren't rich, but when I was 14 they bought me an old Z and my dad spent almost a year rebuilding it for me so I could have it when I turned 15 and got my license. When the car was finished, he took me out in it to show me what it could do, not to encourage me to drive dangerously, but to teach me to have respect for what a sports car could do and how to handle it. He also warned me that if I ever got a speeding ticket or was involved in an accident that was my fault, I wouldn't drive again until I no longer lived under his roof. I didn't get my first ticket until I was 24.

I'm not saying that all teenagers should have sports cars, but I do think that everyone who owns a RWD sports car should keep in mind what the car can do, and treat it accordingly - at any age. Because there are probably just as many "this is my first MT" threads on here as there are "teens w/sports cars" threads.

I plan on killing off any of my rouge offspring by purchasing sports cars for them as thier first car.

have your parents buy you a manual.. it will be just one more distraction.

I won't even pretend that I'm not jealous and disturbed by this post, so here's my rant. When I was 16, (100 years or so ago), I had good grades, a job and guess what my parents said, buy your own car and insurance,. Not to be mean but to make me appreciate it. I just can't understand parents who want to give their kids everything. End of rant. Oh, sports cars have MT.

 

they should have minimum age requirements to buy something like the Z. A 16 year old kid should never be able to get his hands on a car like this...........

I'll probably get flamed for this... but here goes

The ONLY kind of "first car" any kid should be driving is a "throw away". Only the lucky ones don't rub their cars along a post, back their cars into a pole, drive over a parking bumper, rear end someone because they're not paying attention, skid off the road in the rain/ice/snow and worse, fender benders are NOT rare when you're "learning" to drive (and at 16, 17, etc, you ARE still learning!)

This opinion doesn't come from nowhere... I have teenage sons, and am surrounded by a lot of teenage friends

FORTUNATELY mine hasn't done any damage yet, except that one time he took it offroad and got stuck

 

 

i disagree. I am 17 and I guarantee I take better care of this car than most of the people on this forum. This stays in perfect condition and I am always a safe and careful driver. No tickets and no accidents. You shouldnt generalize about kids with sports cars...true some people should just never get behind a fast car but not all kids need to have a trow away car...thats just something people without the money for nice cars say...I pay insurance which is outrageous and gas but the car was free for me seeing as my dad is an E.R. physician and makes enough money to be able to buy this car for my second car. (first was a mitsubishi ecplise) (POS)

Months ago 20/20 did an expose on the dangerous habits of teenaged drivers.They found several "test subjects" and with their parents permission mounted cameras inside the cars to observe the kids <w/o their knowledge> in everyday driving situations. What they showed was absolutely horrifying. Kids blowing through red lights and stop signs because they weren't paying attention, "catching air" by accelerating up steep inclines in the roads, and one girl - while talking on her cell phone - hit an icy patch in the road and actually ducked her head under the dash board while the car spun out of control. There's no way in hell a 16 y/o "child" DESERVES to own this car. So like someone else said, I'm sure we'll all be reading your obituary very shortly...

 

catching air, damn we used to do that all the time when i was in high school. You haven't lived until you have gotten a mini-van airborne, hehe. That is one of the main reasons my kids will not have a sports car until they are out of my house (not just in college) and can buy it themselves.
