generally speaking, how long does a set of bridgestone potenzas last?
i have about 17k miles on my 2005 Z. i drive it normally, no tracking, rarely any racing, sometimes some spirited driving on the highways.
the tires don't look too worn, but the back left tire had been patched before, and it leaks air so i would have to refill it with air once every two weeks. it gets annoying.
i was thinking of getting a set of four tires, which ones are the best for the price? iw as thinking kuhmos because they're less expensive. how are they compared to bridgetsone potenzas?

even though the oem potenzas are not the best tires, they are not in any way cheap tires. i'd go for some conti sportcontacIIs (rated #2) by C&D last December whereas michelins pilots came in #4 and way more expensive.
when it comes to tires..you get what you pay for, i've learned that longer time ago.

Welcome to the forum.
There are so many variables involved that it is impossible to say how long the OEM tires will last. They last as long as they last. I will mention a note of caution about running tires that pass the dime test: They can be terribly dangerous in the rain.
A performance car deserves performance tires. As Ztalker mentioned, Consumer Reports and Car & Drive test results have been posted a dozen times. Please search.

I think they are only a 150 treadwear. I have seen people get about 28K out of them. They must drive on a straight road and never exceed the speed limit loss of traction, and drive with an egg under the pedal.
I was only expecting to get 15K out of mine. However, it looks like I'm going to be one of those to get 28K or so.
As stated above, it depends on how you drive. I would expect the normal driver of a Z to get about 15K.
However, if you drive like this ..... maybe a run or two. Lol !!!

Sorry Bruce, had to do it.

I have 22k right now on my stock Potenza's and it looks like I have a few more thousand miles on them. It's mostly freeway driving and I'm not too hard on the tires for the most part, but I have done quite a few burnouts and do take corners hard enough. Also, each rear tire has one patch in it from nails; I am conscious of this however when I drive. I tried launching the other day and I can't seem to get good traction. I'm extra careful in the rain. I plan on getting Nitto 555's when these tires wear out.

I put over 20k miles on them and still had tread left on the rears. The only reason I got new tires was because of screws that I picked up. I drove the car mostly in the summer, and I would get on it every now and then but I still didn't wear out the tires as fast as others here.
Now I have the newly designed Potenzas up front and the Direzzas in the rear.

8K on the fronts -- till the feathering was so bad that they roared over the stereo.
15K on rears --pretty much bald. Driving in the rain was scary long before they were worn out.
Now I'm on a set of Michelin PS A/S with about 18K F&R with plenty of tread left...

i just had my rear tires replaced saturday with only 9874 miles on them, i think if you are over 15000 miles on your stock tires then you are not driving your car, come on guys that car wants to be unleashed
the treadwear rating on these tires is horrible, however mine have lasted pretty well, still have em with 22.5k on the car, maybe 50% left on the rear. I cant believe the replacement price either, of corse Pilots are even more expensive.
