Get the EVO. The less 350Z out there, the better.

IMO they are two different cars.

Evo: faster, although I personally think they look sweet, to a person who doesnt know much about cars, the evo looks ricey although ANYONE will think a Z is hot ****. Z is just a classy ride, its not as fast as the Evo, but its fast, stylish, and if you ever want, you can put some $$$ into it to make it faster than you'll need. I honestly think tho, that you'll be happier with either the Z and the Evo are my two fav cars, but the image of those two cars are different.

I think the Z will over power the evo in the long run. Yes if you want a quarter mile beast with little money and good gas milage Evo would be the best choice.

Now if you want a car that will look good and with a good bank account turns into a beast the Z is for you.

Me personally i like the evo's but no way in hell an evo even comes near to the Z in looks. I always have wanted a fast rwd 2 door sports car and i think with the z im getting their already. Make your pic any route you go will be a good choice depending on what need you have.

Hahaha, my dad used to say that when i got my first car. Let me start by saying, thanks everyone for all the opinions and suggestions. Looks are definately important, an in a M3 i dont get much from the younger crowd wich is good because i dont want all those street racer 16 an 17 year old kids eyeballing my car trying to race me at every light. Interior is important to me but I like the interior of the Evo, the seats are very nice and its simple but the M3 is a better interior IMO. The interior of the Z is very nice and i like it a lot. I like the looks of the Evo until you get to the spoiler and giant air dam, It just makes me feel like im getting ready to act in a fast an furious movie. The Z is more of a better looking car all around IMO. I probably wont be doing many mods to the next car i get. I love the feeling of bieng in a 2 door RWD drive car. but please keep the suggestions coming

Thank you everyone for the help!

P.S. Sorry if i didnt make much sense im damn tired!

Some will get hooked on the push a turbo gives. Then consider how long you plan to keep this car. My impression with Mitsu cars, especially turbos, is that they don't last too long. Whereas the NAs are more lasting.
The engine is proven. As with any engine, if you take care of it, it will last just as long as the VQ. It's the strongest stock 4 cylinder engine made.

This debate always reminds me of someone's analogy between a slutty stripper (Evo) versus a refined, elegant, and beautiful woman. (Z)

A few weeks ago I test drove the Evo and confirmed that the Z was the right car for me. I won't lie and say that the Evo wasn't awesome to drive though.
What do you mean unrefined?

The EVO steering is FAR superior the the Z's.... I've driven both. The brakes are also better in the EVO, and much better feel to them (Not as on/off as the Z's). The EVO is a far better "please of driving" car. Much more performance based than the Z, and much funner to drive due to the suspension/steering, and turbo power.

There's nothing that beats that rwd two seater feeling. My Evo was ***** out fast, but it definately wasn't as fun to drive as the Z is overall. The Z definitely looks better too. They are two different class cars as well. If you want every ricer boy on the street oogling your car buy an Evo.
If you want every fine lady on the street doing the same buy a Z.
If I could have afforded it I would have kept the Evo as a track car as many of my friends have, but as a daily driver the Z hands down.
Yes, if you care what ever idiot out there thinks about you, buy the Z. AOL users will definitely find the Z better looking.

I went from a E36 M3 to a 350z too. I could not be happier However I'm around evos and supras all day at work so I know what they can do.
It's not much nicer in any way. It has some advantages, however the EVO outweighs it.

The EVO is faster, better handling, better braking, better steering, better suspension. The Z's interior DESIGN is better, however the materials used are just as crappy as the EVO's.

The EVO has more space, 4 seats, a trunk (instead of nearly nothing), AWD (better in rain/snow), and is turbo (easier to mod).

Moreover, the looks you got from you m3 wont be the same. Instead you'll have a majority of the looks coming from younger individuals. Whereas, the Z will bring the same that you m3 brought. Because in my opinon, the Z presents a bold, and mature look and makes a statement everytime it passes me, similar to how a BMW does.

But in end, it is you money that is being spent. And it is being spent for your content so you should pick either one that is more appleasing.

Yea, let's all buy whatever car gets better looks from people.... what great logic.

You in lala-land. There are EVO's in the 8's and EVO's with 900whp on down. Maybe in 10 years the Z will better the EVO, but for now, the EVO wins.

Get the Z. Obviously you care how the world views you and your vehicle. Get what the world tells you to by what gets looks from the right people. The Z.

The EVO is definitely not the car for you from what you said above.

Of course I care about how MOST people view me. Theres certain things about each car that i like both inside and outside. But if I feel the Evo is the more fun car to drive than I'll go with the Evo.

It shouldn't even be considered. I do not mean to attack you, but the logic that you do what others approve of more, is not something worthy of being a variable in the equation.

I could break down the pro's and con's.

EVO PRO's
Steering
Braking
Acceleration
Handling (in all weather conditions)
Space
Trunk
launching
Suspension
"Moddability"
Probably MPG (if you don't boost, it can be pretty good)
Better resale value

CONS
Stiff suspension
Extremely quick steering may get annoying for long trips
Lancer shell
Maintenance will likely cost more
Weak clutch for most drivers
Turn radius
Pretty crappy interior
Drivetrain power loss higher than RWD cars... not a big con since the evo IX can get 350whp for less then 1.5k

350Z PROS
Weight distr.
More Displacement
Much better low-end tq
Smoother ride
Cruise Control
Better interior design (not materials)
Stronger clutch (for most drivers)
Not as expensive to own

350Z CONS
Space
Trunk
Tire wear
Not good in bad weather
For as small as it is, it is not lighter
Performance not as good as the EVO
Crap interior materials. Not necessarily a con when compared to the EVO, but they are not very good.

I could list more, but thats all i could think of off of the top of my head. Honestly if ALL YOUR LOOKING for is the more fun of the two to drive, than the EVO wins hands down.

Test drive both. That way you don't have to listen to jerks like me rant.

Unrefined. They put more attention to power and weight reduction than anything else. I'm not saying the Z has better traction than the evo in the corners, but the road feel response is better in the Z (obviously a subjective opinion). I have driven a 99 Porsche 911 around a lot... the Z's road feel and steering is quite comparable. The Evo has great handling, but the feedback is still on the order of the lancer or civic. I'm not sure what a good set of coilovers / sways can do for the Evo, but I'm sure it would help tremendously. The Z's rigidity and stock suspension gives much better feedback than the Evo, hands down.

Prove that the Evo brakes are "Better." Have numbers? Didn't think so.

The stock Z brakes bite very hard for street driving (on/off behavior) but they can be made more linear by changing the pads. I've now gone through hawk HPS on OEM rotors and I'm currently on axxis ultimates with the stoptech rotors / SS lines. I can tell you that the brakes are very linear NOW. Pads have more to do with braking feel than anything. So if you like the OEM Evo brakes better, that's great. But if you change them out, it may not feel the same.

"Pleasure of driving" ?? Give me a break. You take off from a stoplight, feel like you're driving a civic. Then all of a sudden at 3k rpm, 280 horses kick you in the *** and you're flying. That is the Evo. That is not "pleasure of driving", but it is "High Performance".

The Z... flat torque band from 2k rpm to redline. This gives you better throttle response due to its torquey nature and makes it much more fun as a daily driver. I would not want to worry about keeping the RPMs up to make driving pleasurable on city streets. I do not want to have to rev to 3k and dump the clutch to get a good start. With the Z I do not have to... with 285 tires out back I can still get great acceleration off the line with low RPM, and that is what makes the Z a great daily driver. Always having torque of a V6 at your disposal is a nice thing to have. The evo throttle is jumpy and touchy. But it is still amazingly fast and it does kick some ***.

If you don't know what I'm talking about when I say "unrefined" then let's put it this way:

The Evo is a $35k porsche killer. But the porsche is more refined.

Same with the Z. The Z is simply more refined, although the evo can easily outperform it in most circumstances. The evo is made for rally, whereas Z is RWD and made for the track. In fact, having RWD on the track is often an advantage over AWD.

The Z is very much overbuilt in many areas. Amazing chassis, drivetrain, engine, differential. The Z's clutch is pretty amazing as long as you stay N/A. Even the wheel wells are huge to accomodate much wider tires than an Evo. The Evo has an amazing engine, but that's about it. Their blocks are doing some amazing things that the Z can't touch. But nevertheless, the Z was not built for F/I. If it was built for F/I, it would have stronger internals etc., and would be able to pretty much kick the Evo's *** in every department.

Hope this helps. You are obviously an Evo fanboi, whereas I am a Z fanboy. Please accept my opinion as respecfully biased toward the Z, but not unaware of the Evo's amazing-ness.
