Default Does the 350z coupe have competition?

a couple months back i had the chance to sell my Z and pick up something else when i return home in the summer. but when i got to thinking, i could not come up with any cars in the same price range that are competition with the 350Z coupe. Qualifications would be coupe, rwd, and either a 2 seater or even a 2+2. Closest I could think of are the Audi TT and the BMW 330ci, but both outprice the track model Z by upwards of $5,000. Some would say that the sti and evo are competition but they are sedans, not coupes

So am i overlooking any cars, or is there really no other competition for the Z?

it only has no competition since he limits it to a niche. i think there is plenty so long as it doesnt have to be a rwd coupe. theres plenty of awd sedans that are quite comparable for the price.

You guys forgot the GTO. LS2 power to hand you your a$$ in 2 door RWD. I am assuming you mean new cars because if you are willing to go used.....300ZXTT, RX7, Camaro, Firebird, Mustang GT, C5, 996 Porsche, MKIV Supra, and probably more if I think about it. All those will beat you in a straight line. Around a track, the 996, C5, and RX7 will own you.

If you really want a coupe and not a sedan, and want a new car, I think the closest competition to the Z in this niche category you are looking at would be the S2K and the G35c.

If you wait long enough:
2007 Pontiac Solstice GXP version (260 hp, 260 lb/ft tq, turbocharged 2.0L engine, weight is under 3000 lbs) - drawback: it's Miata-esque.

And if you don't mind spending the extra cash:
M Roadster (E46 M3 engine + Z4 body = Monstrous Beast)

Only 5 competitors in the world that I can think of:

Pagani Zonda F
Ferrari 599 GTB
1987 Porsche 959
Buggati Veyron 16.4
Koenigsegg CC8S

It would be a drivers race.

The mags like to put it up against Rx8's, S2000s with tacked on roofs, and mustangs.

I've also seen the Boxster compared to the ZR, so a possible Cayman/Z coupe comparison would make some sense, though the price point is way different.

Wow, you should think before you blurt out stupid comments like that.. stock for stock they are neck and neck.. The S2K is pretty maxed out from the factory with 120hp per liter, being the most hp produced out of an NA 4 cylinder from the factory. If you give it the right combo of mods though it's right there with the 350 na for na..

S2k with a hardtop conversion is the only real competition in its price range.

Since 2004 they've had 2.2 liters under the hood, so the HP/L is "only" 109. And I do agree that it's pretty much maxed from the factory. There are very few mods that actually make horsepower on that engine.

Cobra is in our price range...and it'd give us a sore @$$ if we didn't have at least some form of F/I.
