Question after order goes to NNA, why do some get order #'s so quick and others NOT??

I have followed the threads of people tracking their Zs that have ordered in the past few months. I see that some people seem to get thier order # in a few days/week, WHILE others get it late in the month the official order was placed.

Why?????

I think a lot has to do with how big a volume dealer they are. The dealers that move many cars get better service. The dealer I got my "Z" from is a very low volume dealer and has only sold 3 cars. Mine was pre ordered in Feb 2002 and arrived Sep 2002. It was the 1st "Z" they ordered and sold. A friend went in to price one at my dealer and was told he would have a long wait.

Good Luck

I think we are talking about different issues, sorry for the missunderstanding.

I was asking, after the car is OFFICIALLY ordered with NNA thru the dealer, why do some people get a Order number quick and some have to wait til the end of the month. (this has NOTHING to do with allocation)

I have 2 guesses.

1) Luck

2) Laziness on the part of the dealer (or the dealer just forgetting to call).

I'm not getting an order number at all. My car was supposedly ordered in my dealer's lot for the month. I've been waiting since September to get my Z at the end of this month, only to find out it's been pushed back to end of February now.

All I can do now is wait... and bug the hell out of my dealer so they'll want to get my car as soon as possible so I'll leave then alone!

I haven't gotten an order number or a VIN and its been 3 months. I have to call and badger them yet again. I think this is because the dealers order the car in their name and not yours. I would guess that only REALLY good dealers will actually give you that number. I was told I'd have my car 2 weeks ago, but when that time rolled around, the salesguy said that the car was ordered without the side airbags I wanted. So, he promises me that my car will be here at the end of this month. The only way he can possibly do this is if they already have one ordered for their inventory and not in anyone's name. I'm sure what happened was that the car that DID come 2 weeks ago wasn't the one they ordered for me, but they tried to get me in it to appease me. Since, however, it didn't have the side airbags, I opted to keep waiting. Its so difficult to get honest information out of any car dealer...

I think some dealers don't really pay that close attention to the "Order Number." They know they've ordered a car with certain specs and they look for a black touring, etc. I had to tell my dealer that I was interested in the order number and that it started with a letter and had 6 numbers after that. Once he realized that that number was important to me, he began tracking that number on reports for me.

He was very honest throughout the process. I was the first one to place a regular order for a Z there (they were a new Nissan dealership and didn't do any preorders), however during my 3-1/2 month's waiting period they got about 8 - 9 Z's through their normal allocations and sold them to whoever would buy them. They offered some to me, but I waited for my Chrome Performance.

Trust me dealers get the order number but you have to bug them about it.

Even then it doesn't help you much.

Default dealer tried bait and switch with me

I ordered the car in October and made a change in early December. Late December rolls around and the dealer calls to tell me they have the first car I ordered. I check the website and find out it has options I didn't order. (nice try)

I find it odd that when I ordered in October, they said it would be ready in February or March, but wait, we recieved your order 2-3 months early!

They didn't say that my December order would be delivered at a different time.
