Default Canadians! Transmission problem!!!

Am I the only one in Canada that has a transmission problem? I have around 5000km on my Track Pack already, and the problem persists. It started right from the beginning, and I thought that the problem would go away but it's getting worse!
The problem: When shifting from second to third gear, there is a loud grinding noise if I try to shift normal(don't even think about shifting fast), to avoid this, I have to wait for about a second after I depressed the clutch before I can push it into third. When I try to down shift from a higher gear at high speed into the third gear, it is totally impossible, I have to downshift into 4th and then third! This is driving me nuts! I talked to the service manager at Alta Nissan in Richmond Hill, and they say that no one else has complained about this problem?! Am I the only one with the bad transmission? Please respond if you have similar problem and any solutions. Thanks!

Hi,

I am from Edmonton. I have rough shifting. So going from 3rd to 4th will either not work (it hits between 2nd and 4th) or sometimes slide into 2nd instead of 4th.

I am not experiencing the level of problems you have. However when I complained to Nissan service from where I bought it they said Nissan is aware of rough shifting and there is a bolt replacement being worked on. Not out yet though.

I have a tranny problem in Toronto also. Not 2nd-3rd, but 1st-2nd. I also get a grind. Happens when tranny is not warmed up yet. I will mention it to Agincourt Infiniti/Nissan when I take it in for the first oil change (next week most likely). Willowdale put on my winter tires and when I told them to check it out they said "seemed normal in the test drive". Which I'm sure it did because the tranny was warm. Maybe I'll have to leave it overnight for them to se what it is like cold. Let me know how your problem progresses.

Default 2 -> 3, but no big deal

I have also experienced a soft notch in the transmission when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear. It occurs mainly when the transmission is cold. I am not worried about it too much since it is somewhat normal to experience some grinding when a transmission is cold.

myz350: when downshifting from a higher gear, I suggest you sequentially downshift anyway ... It's less fun but better for the longevity of your transmission.

Default with only 350 km's

I am no probs whatsoever.....and hopefully I won't....I live on the west coast...it never gets that cold here...maybe that's one reason why...but I dont even notice much rattling.....mind you.....I am still breaking it in.......

Many of the US owners have already received New transmissions...or new clevis parts......Nissan should do the same up here.

I like the 350Z very much since I get compliments about it everywhere I go, therefore I will not be complaining if it was not a major problem. Regarding down shifting, where would you shift to if you are going 100km/h and wants to make a right hand turn at 40km/h? Naturally, you would step on break slightly to reduce the speed down to 60km/h and down shift from 5th to 3rd to make a sharp turn would you not? Anyways, when I try to shift into 3rd from other gear, sometimes it would not allow me to get into gear no matter how many times I try, it would grind everytime I push the shift **** upwards. I think either my transmission is going to break apart or I'll have to start skipping 3rd gear completely! Very busy at work now so don't have time to bring the car in for service. Will try and bring it in(in Feb) for an oil change and fix other problems like AC light coming on whenever I start the engine.

Everytime it occurs, you should log the data like : temperature, gear, conditions, and time after leaving. After a few of them take data to Nissan and complain till the cows come home or until they fix it. You guys have a sports car that should not grind. The grind is changing your driving style drastically if you have to skip 3rd or be hesitant to shift into any gear, could be dangerous and will get you in trouble one of these times.
