how do they get away with claiming higher hp #'s? not to sound naive but where are the regulations? where's the proof behind the pudding? every new car should come with a dyno graph proving their hp ratings......who agrees with me?
ehhh...im just venting over here......is it 5 o'clock yet?

well, their rating has aways be bhp...meaning engine output at the fly wheel, which never accounts for drivetrain loss (it's not there yet). If you put your engine out and tried to rate the power of that, i'm sure you'll get somewhere close to the 287 range.

However, the '06 is the 300hp, so it should be slightly higher.
If I had to guess, it would be around 245whp. (18% loss)

287 - 18% (51.66) = 235.34 which is what the avg. Z owner dynos stock from what I have seen.
Of course, sometimes you have the person that dynos 220hp and then the other one that dynos 240hp, but in the end it averages out to around the 230-235hp range.
All of this also depends on the dyno.
Remember that the 287hp is most likely Nissan's BEST motor dyno; they won't quote the average for marketing reasons because it will be lower. If they were able to get 290hp at the crank ONE time, then they would say our engine has 290hp
