I've been reading a lot of stock dynos. Disappointed to see the results. 235 WHP on car that is claimed to have 300 BHP doesn't work.
235 * 1.15 (15% drivetrain loss) = 270 WHP
Nissan appears to overrate their motors. My 02 Mustang GT dyno'd at 232 RWHP stock (Ford only rates the GT motor at 260 HP) and my 03 Mach 1 dyno'd at 289 RWHP stock (rated at 305 from the factory).
I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death before though..
youre right about the dissapointing #s, but your math is off. for a 15% drivetrain LOSS, youd do
300 * .85 = 255.
your math is adding 15% to 235, which isnt the same.
Yep good catch on the math error. His math was adding 15% OF 235, not subtracting 15% OF 287/300 hp.
Anywhoo, to the original poster... a Base Z will put down anywhere from 225whp-245whp. I'm kind of disappointed at the large discrepancy as well, but those are the numbers. And as a note, the Base Z should be putting down similar numbers to other models, like the Grand Touring , etc.
We can speculate all day and not get anywhere. Here are the only facts:
1. Each Z seems to yield different dyno results. You can take 2 identical MY/trim/mileage Z's and run them back-to-back on the same dyno. The results won't be identical.
2. Different dynos yield different results. Combine that with #1 and there's not point guessing.
