About the other models you mentioned. AMG is mercedes and only comes with an automatic. Z8 is a 400hp coupe which has been discontinued, but for good examples, the prices are holding steady at around 100K.

The base price of an M3 is around 48K. Mildly and comfortably equipped models can be had for around $55K. Used prices for '02 and now '03s I believe are in the $30K range.
Doh, I meant SMG messed up the typing a bit. I was thinking SMG then typed AMG. Does that ever happen to you? I still say, " Just do it!" He's really wanting one. Has always wanted one. He won't get it out of his system tell he get one. However, you'd never see me in a M3 unless it was a friends.

Rough as hell as a daily driver if you have any bumps or pot holes on any of your roads you will find them real quick the suspension is so stiff its rediculous! I would stick with the 350z or swap it for a manual. These are the reasons im switching to a z. The M3 is horrible in traffic that will be your worst nightmare all the M3 want to is have its throttle hammered and taken to the track its not ment for a daily traffic driver!
BMW's are very easy to change the oil on, raise the hood, unscrew the top of the oil filter canister, lift out the oil filter element, drop in a new one, screw back on the top, drain oil pan and refill. Very easy do it yourselfer, save $40 bucks.

Never did I say anything about out handling a vette. The overall package of the e46 m3, acceleration/handling, interior fit and finish, looks, just the car itself is hard to beat at its price point.

There has been a number of threads about the m3 recently. Reading some of the comments shows that many people are simply confused when it comes to comparing the 350z to other cars and to the m3 in particular. In the future, I don't think I'll partake in threads when it comes to the discussion of a m3.

I just wanted to make sure. Because you did say for the price point is was hard to beat and I was talking about covettes when you posted against my response. Just so we have that straight. It's all cool.
In my mind, there are a lot of cars for 60K you could buy that would be better. However, you might have to take it to the shop and have a couple of goodies put on it. Humm ..... the 350Z comes to mind.
Remember this is a 350Z board. You can do a lot with 30K to a 30K 350Z. Heck you can buy two.
You must not have seen the 350Z shock video. M3's are heavy and don't have as flat a curve. But, what do those guys know? I mean that's all they do ... They couldn't possibly be right.

tracked both and like the Z a lot better, also beat the m3's time by 2 seconds w/skinnier tires on the z...see this post https://my350z.com/forum/2003-2009-nissan-350z/165377-why-do-i-get-the-urge.html#post2023248
