My 03 has been bullit proof other than minor feathering. 29,000 miles & 37 months and I've spent less than $500 on maintenance....all scheduled stuff.

If you are looking for a reliable car maybe a performance sports car is not the best choice. That said...
The 2006 has been on the road for a short time. Too short for anyone to collect valid data. What you can do is check Consumer Reports and study reliability trends for 2003 through 2005.

Z-one I hear you, why spend 30-40K on something that's going to have you in the service dept. every month. I run my own business, have no time for car problems, I demand more of my vehicles than just acceleration and handling, and you can believe I am watching this like a hawk.
I have the CR online membership, and I can tell you Nissan has had serious problems with the 350Z's transmissions, suspensions, and power equipment... most of these have been 2003-2004 models, and it's not just a few cars; the 2003 has been bad enough to earn the dubious solid black circle overall for used car verdict.
The fact that the 2005 models are showing no problems is encouraging, and it should be noted CR still recommends the car... however on the roadster, Nissan continues to install soft tops that are coming apart in less than a year or two and after the 3 year warranty you will have to replace the soft top yourself for $1,800. There are lengthy threads on this forum devoted to this problem, with some going on their 3rd and 4th tops. Nissan has also issued a recall on over 52,000 350Z's due to a serious safety issue requiring the entire rear suspension to be lowered. See my sticky for that thread.
This is a real shame, since other than this the 350Z is a great car. It is surprising that Nissan cannnot seem to improve these problem areas... but if they don't do something in a hurry, the 350Z will join the Quest and Armada at the bottom of the CR reliabilty list.

Ive had my 06 touring since november. it has about 5,200miles on it with no problems yet. Have owned hondas since I was 16. This car was the best choice. Almost got a S2k / STi But the Z was just to sexy. The leather and all... mmmmm If you have the money, get the 06. Rev-up is the way to go! With the mods on my Sig, I pulled 272whp 261 trq. Untuned, untouched internals, stock header. I feel the little things that the 06 offers are well worth it. Different location of the hazard lights (button). Cup holders in the doors. Sliding center compartment/holder. New headlights/tailights. High and low beams are now H.I.D But the real prize is owning a Z period.
.
Here is a Vid of my car (camera car) and my bro's 06 going at it. We made the same numbers at the dyno

On a serious note, I love this car in all respects except for the fact that I've had to replace my soft top and tranny. Both items under warranty and I lost the use of my car for a few days. Considering what the car has to offer, this doesn't bug me too much.

I've defended Nissan much as I could, but after this Im definalty sticking with Leuxs or Acura next time. Then again im typing this in the heat of the moment so I much change my mind later when i've cool down
